Allan Border. He got his average up to 51.71 in his 20th Test and it pretty much sat within +/- 3 runs of 50 for next 136 Tests ending at 50.56

Marshall clearly had a very well defined peak, from 1983 (before which he wasn't an automatic selection in the WI bowling attack, despite playing since 78) to 89 (after which he wasn't as effective, best showcased in the 92 WC).

Yes outside 2 bad periods related to injuries

• 1972/73 - he was diagnosed with one stress fracture after the 1972 tour of England increasing to 3 before he went in to hospital
• 18 months starting in 1982 - had a several injuries

Nah, he actually had a pretty big slump between the 96 and 03 World Cups. Averaged 43.75 in that period compared to 52.88 throughout his whole career.

If you took the 99 and 01 series out of the equation it'd look even more glaring.

Lillee's a pretty good call. Didn't Border have a long period without scoring a century (even if his average remained fine?)

ok I had a closer look and Border went 13 Tests without a century between Feb 82 and Nov 83 (his average was 46.98 before next century took him to 47.90).

Nah what I was referring to was a 4 year patch when he went centuryless from 1988 to 1992.

Still managed to average 45 in that time though impressively enough.

Correct. Not a loss of form, but pretty much maintaining the same level when performing most of their career.

How does his peak start in 1982 when I already pointed out he didn't hit a century in 13 tests between Feb 82 and Nov 83. He must have a shorter peak?
