The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Let's not pretend Steyn was not the beneficiary of ball tampering. It's just than in his day ball tampering was done by a designated person who was not the bowler. Didn't a certain player come up to front tampering charges a few times and always get off scott free (not banned) to continue the practice?
So your defence is that Steyn also tampered. Ok......

Steyn also had DRS, and his away performances, though not great was commensurate with if not ahead of his peers. That's not the case with Imran.

Look. I'm feeling very dirty, but I'm going down the 'Steyn is not all that' rabbit hole. I only mentioned the tampering because people are using that to knock Imran.
I just cant see how one picks him ahead of Imran. Batting doesn't even come into it.

Quoted wrong post. Was meant to be re: Thorpe and Root.
GP Thorpe (ENG)2000-20054374153145200*53.30690045.57101543428
GP Thorpe (ENG)1993-19995710513359913839.11779346.1862484361

Root has better numbers but also look at Graham Thorpe's centuries and the Bowling he faced. Thorpe was England's best Batsmen from 1997 to 2004.

10 Centuries of Graham Thorpe came against World Class Bowling Attacks. 3 Centuries facing Warne, 2 Centuries facing Murali and a Century facing Saqlain in his prime.

Can you tell me how good is Joe root based on the quality of bowling he faced ? i am not particularly impressed with his record in Australia.
I am not convinced so may be you can share some good points regarding Root.

Yeah it’s very close for sure. Root does have better longevity while Thorpe was better at scoring tough runs.

Understood.

And if you believe Imran is the better bowler, there's no discussion to be had really.

I think all two and Ambrose is a step down from the "big" 3.

are you seriously questioning Root who happens to be one of the best players of spin in the current era for his ability against spin?
why he has a poor record in Australia ? in this era players are focusing too much on T20s and IPLs for Money so there are few good countries who still play a good test cricket like England, Australia, New Zealand and India. So i expected Root to have a good record in Australia where pace Bowler friendly pitches are there and he could have done better. When Thorpe started becoming England's best batsmen in 1997 - It was too difficult for Batsmen to score runs as the pitches were bowling friendly. Except against South Africa Thorpe did well consistently against all teams.
