The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I’d say if you’re going to have Imran at 7, Kapil should be replaced by Jadeja (or Ashwin). Either one will have far more value than Kapil. There’s also the option of moving Imran to 8 and having an extra batsman.

Personally I’d have Younis before Miandad.
I literally agree with and second every word of this post.

I think the two teams are as close to equal you are getting with selecting Don in one ...

I don't like the idea of playing Miller as a 4th bowler. It might be the strongest combo (not sure). But it's less clear to me that this team is stronger than the other top ATG sides when the bowling gets weakened.

Don't see that as an issue myself. Miller could lead the attack and bowl 20+ overs an innings when needed, with no loss of effectiveness. He just didn't do it that much during his career because it wasn't necessary.

Not sure about that. He seems to have taken on this kind of workload for 3 series. Averages of 22 30 and 32. No idea what role bowling more played in this though.

Workload questions aside, there are quality questions at the level of 4 ATGs without a decent 5th. He was probably only the 3rd best quick in his own team. Bit of a HTB. Like lillee, no proven success in Asia. The attack might be fine, but It might have issues taking 20 wickets in places like India and Pakistan, who are seriously good at home.

He did it lots during his career. He opened the bowling the majority of his career. He averaged 18.5 overs per innings, bowling 20+ in about 40% of them.

For comparison, the other Aussie bowlers:

Davidson - 23.5
Lillee - 23.3
Lindwall - 20.1
McGrath - 20.1
Cummins - 18.3

He was certainly capable of it but not as effective as these other guys.

Do totally agree. You need 20 wickets to win a game, can't really compromise too much and just take 3 of my best and a very good bowler as the 4th one, without a 5th. Either have Lindwall, Davidson, Cummins or O'Reilly in place of Miller; or if Miller is to play, it has to be in favour of Border, to bat at 6. Like, why do you need 6 top order pure batsmen, a bat like Gilchrist and Miller at 8 on top of that; when you have Don at 3??

Both Good Replacements, but i went with Clarke as he is a good part time bowler. Lee was extremely good in 2000s played in different conditions for longer

2000s
B Lee (AUS)2000-200918618294781579.412074563245/2223.014.7129.25119

DK Lillee (AUS)1980-198348482684447.2651523764/1220.033.4035.313
Brett Lee took a lot of fivers but I mostly remember him getting smacked around the park. His ER is quite poor for that era.

Clarke is Australia's Kallis. Excellent in a weaker team, but scores too slowly for an ATG one.

he was playing in 2000s when the batting era started, Starc also has high ER but doesnt mean he is a bad bowler. Brett Lee was fast and intimidating won lot of matches for australia and also had better fitness compared to Shoaib and Shan Bond. The Contrast of McGrath and Lee made them to dominate a decade.
