And you also ignored the fact that Dravid was arguably the best in England since Bradman; while Ponting there is just good... Removing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe; Dravid averages 47.2 away, Ponting does 41.25. Dravid also scored more than 1000 more runs in only 8 more matches.
Yes Dravid was more dominant in more places but weaker in more places, basically the toughest places to tour in his career span. Up to you if you want to consider that a better record based on a raw average.

England wasn't the same consistent challenge as the other places, notwithstanding his 2011 epic.

Do you agree in excluding WI and keeping Bangladesh/Zimbabwe or no?
England in England have always been challenging this century. Their bowling have always been good at home .

I removed WI, BAN and ZIM . Ponting is now Lower than Kohli 86BA1DFC-D673-42E8-9636-C062B44C620D.jpeg

Dravid, had pressure, shoulder the batting, I think better than ponting against swing.

Last test WI 06, his eden gardens 2001 knock, Adelaide 2004, his 48 in SA world cup final 2003 under extreme pressure. Nicknamed the wall. Had amazing consistency.

Id trust Dravid more than Ponting to bat for my life.

Dravid averages 4 runs more against WI.... Ponting himself wasn't really great in England also and cashed in heavily against mediocre attacks there; and his runs in SL could hardly be classified as dominating Murali. That doesn't writes off Dravid's poor performances in those places; and Ponting was genuinely great in SA; just putting perspective.
I generally give more credit to being a better all-round bat with fewer weaknesses specific to conditions.

Dravid was better in Australia than Ponting was in India; SL you could hardly argue as a great exploit of Ponting; and yeah, Ponting was genuinely great in SA. Also, Ponting never had series close to Dravid in England 2011. Up to you how you think SL was more tough than England.

That's why I rate Dravid higher. His only weakness was high bounce; Ponting had more problem against spin and wasn't great against swing as well.

Ponting outright sucked in India but wasn't particularly weak anywhere else.

Dravid I would argue was weak in SL, SA and to a certain extent Australia.

And yeah, facing Murali and co in SL was more challenging than the attacks and pitches Dravid generally faced in England, sans 2011 epic.

I would generally disagree on that last point as there was hardly a co except Vaas worth playing Test cricket. Ponting got some easy runs in SL.

I don't think Ponting had more problems against spin than Dravid, who struggled against both Murali and Warne. They were both comparable. Dravid better against swing sure, not against pace and bounce.
I might actually take Ponting over Dravid against lateral movement from an ATG attack but Dravid was significantly better against spin
