Yeah but if you don't have hope then what else is left?

I said it last night and I'll say it again: there are the bones of a properly competitive team here. They just need Kraigg and Chanders Jr to come good and find one more batsman... somehow...
I think Australia needs to find one stat as well tbh.

I mean we can be more specific than that: we need Marnus to remember that he's supposed to be in his prime. I keep saying it but that's the biggest issue with the batting order right now; your gun #3 at 30yo should not batting like this

Kraigg is up there with Sobers and Viv with the sheer flow of his batting but its such a small sample size, and he's so young so you can only hope.

What a series Shamar Joseph is having. A wicket with his first ball in test cricket, now a 7-fer to complete an incredible victory.

Again this has always been said. Brathwaite is at his level and I'm not really sold on anyone else including Chanderpaul. Their poor FC system (especially the pitches) has just been that much of a hindrance, and the lure of T20 money is never far away.

It's a 'I'll believe it when I see it' thing. Even during the past few years when they have looked better, they couldn't beat an SL side who were otherwise awful away from home, and there's been a massive player turnover since then.

Incidentally amongst all this the "can the second greatest batsman in the country's history open the batting" conversation was also killed stone dead today, so wins all around. Just needed Green to not get that cracker and it would have been an all around flawless day of cricket.

The weird thing about it is that I don't think the WIndies played that poorly. Hobart 2015 it wasn't. Really West Indies had a shot at a first innings lead but for Head's innings.
i didn't get this discussion last week. it was a quick game coz they bowled well! would we have preferred a boring arse Marnus 200 to get onto day 4

Brathwaite was not at his level this tour though, he was way way below his level. But yes something needs to be done to support WI cricket at the FC level; it might require radical options like inviting top tier WI prospects to participate in other FC systems.

Yeah but I don’t think we can carry two allrounders in the top six. Green can develop into a proper test class batsman but isn’t there yet, but Marsh is nothing more than a stop gap solution, as good as he’s been. Theres just an inherent fragility with both of them there imo.

Whatever it takes!!!
As others have said, its also wonderful to see the test specialists taste success. It was Pujara and a couple of others in 2021, its Brathwaite and Roach today. These guys are so good and play the toughest format with the least glamor and financial security. Its the same thing I feel for good Ranji players when they get their IPL paydays. Hopefully that test fund idea can be rebooted and backed properly this time by the Pig 3.
