NZ domestic season 2023/24

Yeah, he was a very handy ODI player and although not suited to the opening role did manage back to back centuries in that 2013 test we nearly won at Eden Park against England.
Funny looking back at that series, we thought we'd found a solid opening duo in Rutherford and Fulton who both scored impressive hundreds (two for Fulton), but neither of them could barely score a 50 again in their lives.

How does Nathan Smith not score more runs? He's talented and more technically sound than most balanced allrounders.

Oh, that's how. Tbf it's the slog overs.

Yeah from 2008 Taylor, Ryder, McCullum and later KW pushed guys like Fulton, Broom, Brownlie, Nicol and Flynn into pursuing top order positions they weren't suited to.

That side suffered from the early retirements of Styris, McMillan and Oram too. Taylor was the senior batsman in his 4th test.
Wonder how we'd have done if Baz opened from 2008

Macewell should never bat above #5 at absolute most in the Shield again. I see a #Munro'sLaw future for him.
Hes a NcCullum esque jammy economical limited overs specialist bowler. Maybe a tad worse than him with the ball and significantly superior as a bat
Big call. Nathan McCullum was a quietly world class T20 bowler, and a bit better than his figures in ODIs.

Some excellent commentary from Sumo there, says Nathan Smith was always looking to come back for two (it was Van Beek), replay shows him standing there having completed the run before Bracewell belatedly came back for the second.

Foulkes has had no media training in his life poor guy haha
Wellys attack today is better imo
Not even close. This lot didn't even have to use Sodhi if they didn't want to. The indispensable to NZ for years despite being a bit bad Ish Sodhi. Poor old 1 cap RIP Netherlands career Rippon got dropped.

Smith, Milne, Sears is pretty good tho. LvB good if he's playing in orange.

The Braves play in this comp so its not that great tbf.

Reckon Smith, Small or Lister probably deserve that allocade ahead of Foulkes
