NZ domestic season 2023/24

5.2 McMillan beaten to the call by Mackay (edit: Martin) so robbed of a chance to call a skier "straight up" :(

That’s the problem you get when you pick a coach who has played with all these guys, he isn’t going to make the big calls and cut his mates when the time comes

ND has some serious issues. Worrying about **** that has nothing to do with cricket, woke as ****. Players getting picked not just on cricket ability in both the first and ‘A’ teams. Aging rapidly, losing guys in there mid 20’s who are giving up the game due to not getting a sniff.

Case in point Sandeep Patel. Makes 140 odd first game of the season, gets dropped one game later. Scores 90 against Bangladesh and still can’t get a run. He’ll be the next guy to move or worse just chuck cricket in

Us Counties-Manukau fellas never get a fair shake

Cooper isn't even good enough to hit it straight up.
Hahaha this made me LOL for real.

Can anyone remember a worse domestic campaign than NDs? **** me, they finally replace the guy who averages 7 at about an SR of 80, with a bowling all-rounder who then gets a duck, while the guy they replaced gets a duck at No.4. Sums them up perfectly.

Then God decides he's seen enough of this ****ing tripe, and makes it rain.

I mean, ignoring the use of "woke" which I'm struggling to see is applicable, I have often wondered about getting freshly retired blokes to come and coach the team they've just left - and whether this tends to lead to a bias towards players they know and have played with rather than players they are less likely to have seen.

Other than Sandeep Patel (whose case I was wondering about prior to your post, particularly given ND's batting travails through the Super Smash), who else should be in the line-up? How does someone like Flynn McGregor-Sumpter come into the equation - given he's transferred from Auckland. Scott Johnston was given a contract in the first 15, but hasn't played since a decent FC outing in February (is he injured? - seems to have largely been playing as a batsman only for Manukau)

Sandeep has been unlucky in terms of List A and FC selection, I do wonder though, is he maybe not seen as a T20 option?

Admittedly my basis for wondering is just playing against him/watching him bat in person and noting that he's small in stature and compared to other top players I've played he doesn't hit the ball all that hard. Not a natural bosher, maybe.

I've heard the same thing about ND's administration, incidentally...using the exact 'woke' term Howsie used. I wouldn't have a clue, just saying that's what I've been told. Wild irony given the history of their main all-rounder, of course.

I agree with freshly retired blokes - Henry Cooper has to be a prime example. He should've been cut way earlier in the T20 season but BJ obviously sees something in him that never eventuated. No problem if they coach elsewhere, but it's a potential real issue if they go back into the same province. You've got to create a hierarchy and a barrier for yourself as a coach, which I'm not sure exists if you coach guys you played with and are a very similar age.

Well, the word woke does tend to get overused. The all-rounder referred to suggests it doesn't apply here. Woke shouldn't be used as a synonym for biased or just plain ****.

I think it's attached to the Pride round and a few other parts of 'inclusion' that have put a few people's beaks out of order (for better or worse). But I agree, the word woke is like snowflake - it's used a lot by mouthbreathers and people with low IQs. Except Howsie, he's awesome.
