I think the toughest pill to swallow is how we could have played far better and got everything right and we still would have been, at best, 50-50 to win the game. We are so far outclassed in these conditions with this side that even with a complete performance, we need things like toss and 50-50 calls going our way to even go above even chance.

I mean, we could have batted better and made 300 here in the first innings. Bowled better and got them out for 350. And we still would have most likely lost the game. In a way, its less painful when we are outplayed to such an extent than those 2 losses in 2021 even though we played far better in those games.
SA definitely wasn't as good as the scorecard suggests. They are an improved team from 2021 though while the Indian side was not as strong thanks to several key players missing.

Hmm you have to play pretty darn well to win by an innings in 3 days. Who is missing for India? Jadeja and Shami?

Jadeja and shami, pant aswell I guess but he hasn't featured in ages. Would india have played two spinners + 3 pacers if jadeja was fit? If so test could have gone differently, but I feel like a straight swap with jadeja for ashwin and shami for pradish is the likeliest outcome.

India lost the plot on Day 3 completely, the first two days it wasn't as one-sided.

And yeah, those two would have made it closer.

I think Nortje would have made a huge difference for SA. While I am a fan of Coetzee, the intensity dropped when he came on

Jaiswal - 2/10 bad shot first innings good nut second
Rohit - 0/10 see above. minus extra marks for captaincy.
Gill - 3/10 drop him when pant is back
Kohli - 7/10 looked decent in both knocks, though a bit lucky in the second. Took a peach to get him in the first.
Iyer - 4/10 batted well in the first innings until he got a tough one.
KL - 8/10 brilliant hundred
Ashwin - 5/10 bowled well, had some catches dropped. No impact with the bat.
Thakur - 2/10 the meme effect is over, he’s just a club standard cricketer now
Bumrah - 7/10 was the best of a bad bunch
Siraj - 5/10 ok in patches
Prasidh - 1/10 awful

so subs doesnt show up when his team gives their best performance in ages in Australia but does so at the expense of a break when India plays crap?
Haha yes I used to think it was hb over reacting (still do to a lesser extent) but he even popped in specifically for the WC final loss

He does excel in triggering all of us Indian posters though, very masterful. Definitely a bit dim though which gives him plausible deniability.
