Cricketer Of The Year
Yeah honestly I get where your coming from. If bavuma wasn't fully fit he shouldn't have fielded in the second innings bare minimum. As a fan at that stage lost complete confidence in Bavuma and would prefer Hendricks and honestly that game was so close 20 rather than a duck might have made a difference. But my major annoyence on that was more the fact that he wasn't completely healed from injury. The fact that it still feels decisions aren't made on results is concerning to say the least.
And agree with your statement, I think the biggest difference is the players mentioned has earned that trust and confidence. I don't see that in Bavuma, can others say they do as that for me is surprising.
On the confidence and trust thing, how had bavuma not earned that. I'm not sure if your familiar with Australian cricket, which is fair as an SA fan, but mitch marsh had opened for a grand total of ~10 ODI's coming into the WC, and zampa had the same situation as bavuma (He averaged 35 with the ball in ODI cricket before his gun 4 year run leading into the WC). Bavuma averaged 53 with the bat between the two WC's, he was in a similiar bot to the aformentioned two players in terms of confidence and trust.
