Yeah for sure. He trumps shanto’s centuryTaijul will surely be the MOTM with 10 wickets.

The sad thing is, I remember saying this as far back as the 2015 Australian series. He kept getting really good starts v Johnson, Starc, Hazelwood etc, and clearly had the game...but he just always finds ways to get out against good opposition. Averages 26 v Australia, 31 and 32 v England + India, 9 v SA, and has scored 1 ton v those four sides in 37 Tests against them. That is not even in the sphere of being in an all-time NZ side, as he often is put in the conversation of.Latham has to be the most frustrating player I've watched. Has every shot, capable of playing big innings, defensively compact and probably the best technical player of spin to ever wear a black cap, but just keeps underwhelming. I remember after his debut year thinking we'd found a guy who was going to be the Dravid to KW's Tendulkar. Not sure where he goes from here, he's always averaged 40+ which is nye-on unheard of for a kiwi opener, and he does play the odd gem even against good bowling attacks, but it's plain that he hit his ceiling 9 years ago.
I forgot NZ brought Neil Wagner back for this tour. His short stuff would have been a handful for this lot in Sylhet.Good stuff lads. Very satisfying, and surprising, to see this happen with some good players missing. Huge credit goes to Shanto for his batting and for marshalling this team the way he has.
I think the reason we match up well against the Kiwis is that they don't have a tall fast bowler who can bowl at high pace while getting steep bounce who could exploit our complete inability to contend with that type of bowling. The teams we've played at home since the pandemic have really been able to put us to the sword by deploying at least one bowler who fits that archetype.
Still, it's lovely to get a win at home against quality opposition after a dismal few years. I feared the worst.
Changing up the team will probably turn things around for the Kiwis in the next one.

I remember that match vaguely and pulled the scorecard now. Vettori came in 2 down lol chasing 317 in fourth innings. He was our worst nightmare.I remember when Dan the man Vettori chased down 300+ target in the 4th innings in Dhaka a lifetime ago.
Good bounce back after a horrible WC.
Also KW played this test, so means a little more than the Mount Maunganui test.
Not many teams can, tbftall fast bowler who can bowl at high pace while getting steep bounce
Sounds like Nicholls is the one everyone wants dropped?Non-negligible chance Rachin plays next match I think, due to lizard man loss-must-force-changes thinking. But it's a total crapshoot as to which player Stead thinks he should replace: Nicholls, Phillips, Sodhi, Ajaz?
Can't drop Phillips, he was arguably our best spinner and did well enough with the bat. Has to be Nicholls or Latham, but I can see them dropping Sodhi tbh.Non-negligible chance Rachin plays next match I think, due to lizard man loss-must-force-changes thinking.
