As a South African captain you are also the South African. Siya doesn't stop being the Springboks captain when he speaks at a non SARU event.

If you accept the position you accept the cons and the positives. Cons are you are always under scrutiny.
He doesn't have a contract with lions cricket or sa cricket just fyi not employed by either.

Ok so ill take extracts out of his interview in direct quotes .

“Coming from a religious Jewish school and then being thrust into the biggest all-boys school in Johannesburg was quite a shift, and it wasn’t easy, but at all times, it was my Jewish faith that grounded me. So, to the Jewish community, thank you for being my home. My journey is truly about Jewish identity and whether it be standing out, missing cricket games, missing opportunities [in order] to observe my faith, those are crucial moments in my life.”

“Hopefully, I can inspire young, religious sportsmen to follow their dreams because, quite frankly, I didn’t think it was possible.”

“So, I’d like to dedicate this award to the South African family that married off one son while the other is still missing,” he said, referring to the family of Rabbi Doron Perez, whose son, Yonatan, who was injured on Saturday, 7 October, got married last week while his other son, Daniel, has been missing since that fateful day. “And I’d like to dedicate it to the state of Israel and every single soldier fighting so that we can live and thrive in the diaspora.”

Just taking those quotes gives a different light , this is politics and not because of the Kid he has a close connection to it due to Faith and Family. It is heritage and something affecting him directly at this moment . The only reason it is front and center is because its in opposition to the support our government official gives . Regarding any other captain , I cannot think of any Minority religious captain in South Africa , can you ?
South Africa for Palestine laid a complaint otherwise this would of been a non entity they found the article and threw toys out of cot.

What percentage of the total population is non white? If less than 7/11 of the population is white it feels a bit dumb to try and force that kind of ratio.

I get the appeal of quota in theory, and something like it is 100% necessary given what non white players experienced during the appartied years and at other points. But in practice it seems like it just forces CSA to overplay the Afrikaans players like rabada who are good enough.

Wouldn't a better solution be to either fix the system that allows a large majority of the players to come from a few private schools or atleast ensure that more non white kids go to those schools so they get the proper facilities at a young age and we get more non white players who are at that level. If you use a quota as your major driver I feel like your just gonna get guys like zondo who you don't get the best years out of or you have to develop at the international/A level.

Edit: Did a quick google search and it said 80% of SA is non white. If that's the ratio I don't mind a 7/11 quota in theory. Is there any plans to idk, offer vouchers/scholarships to non white players who achieve at youth level or something so they can go to these private schools that have the coaches and facilities or are they just going to enforce a quota and hope for the best?
In rugby and cricket all over the world private schools provide the most players, soccer is more all over the schools. Not just an SA thing when it comes to wealth side of things.

OK that's good to hear. Feel like it would still be good for the organisation enforcing a quota to use there own money to ensure grassroots stuff develops well rather than relying on the schools to do the heavy lifting (if they are doing that please correct me, got no idea).
Government does zilch, it is easier for non white players though with no money to develop bowling than batting same as other countries just with rich to poor ratio as opposed to skin color in this context it be both.

“Yes, I’ve been [given] this award, and yes, I’m now the rising star, but the true rising stars are the young soldiers in Israel. And I’d like to dedicate it to the state of Israel and every single soldier fighting so that we can live and thrive in the diaspora.

So this is the part that would be the problematic part... what he said is understandable speaking at a Jewish event, as a young Jewish man. It does change significance though when he has been selected as U19 SA captain. Where he represents players from different cultures, divides and opinions, and has sway over those players. A captain of a countries sport are chosen to lead on and off the field and to represent all cricketers who would like to achieve the honour of representing South Africa. So to make a public comment that supports a position (understandable or not) that is entirely personal and does not consider the greater impact of that statement on others he may captain, who's own families or friends could be being oppressed by those very self same soldiers, is a problem. And it could be considered an issue on his ability to lead those other players.

And this is not a free speech issue. Free speech issue would the government decided to persecute because of what he said. Saying something (controversial or not) and having repercussion from the community, good or bad, is purely a social reaction, contrived or not, that always has the chance to occur every time you speak in public.

My personal opinion on this, is that a young man who is still self absorbed and has not learned to think fully about what he says and how it could effect others he has a responsibility towards, made a very small but understandable public lapse.

That CSA have decided to do an enquiry is an absolute load of nonsense, and this is truly a mountain out of molehill scenario. All I hope is that it is resolved and blows over very soon. And all parties who are using this to push an ideological agenda from whatever side should just shut the hell up.

Questions of Sipamla... does not seem to be fit, not playing. But maybe if he recovers and gets some game time should go. (I don't think he has a T20 contract?)

Is there another keeper in the squad besides Fortuin? There needs to be a backup in the touring squad, so presumably one will be added if there isn't anybody else who can keep.

David Bedingham is in the SA A Squad and kept in the first test. He is a back up keeper .

I also think Glenton Stuurman has a shot , not sure why he isn't in the SA A squad however was part of the test squad previously .

Massive win for the SA A team in the second test . Reynard van Tonder getting back to back half centuries and Pietersen backing up his first innings half century with a ton in the . Concerns regarding the rest of the batsman to convert starts however most at least getting runs . Strangely on the bowling side it was Piedt standing out with the best bowling performance between the two tests played and he has a SA20 contract , leading to questions of how our pace attack and bowling attack in general will look for the tour . Moreki did the best of all the seam bowlers over the two tests .

With 1 test left , non many showing that they are undisputedly ready for the challenges of international tests .
