Don't know why but I'm feeling unreasonably optimistic re Jamieson. He's been awful and extremely hittable in his white-ball career to date, but there's no doubt he's talented. The Mills/Henry role of bowling new-ball overs would suit him, if there's a little movement in the air or wicket he could be dangerous. Keep him away from death overs.

Milne very unlucky though.
I don't know why I'd jinx him by saying this, but what I actually saw from Jamieson in the England ODIs was more impressive than the figures suggested. Seemed in good rhythm, hitting good areas, beating the bat.

If he must play then I'm hopeful that, against all statistical evidence, he will be useful in snaffling top order wickets with conventional test bowling.

Anything outside of his opening spell, not so sure.

Is Milne fit? He only managed one ODI in the Bangladesh tour, and hasn't played since then.
Don't know - played that final Bangladesh ODI but hasn't turned out for CD in the Plunket Shield. Though wouldn't necessarily expect him to either. It's unfortunate but he doesn't make a great injury-replacement, being so injury prone himself.

Yeah quite obviously both Shipley and Milne would have been much better ODI options than Southee and Jamieson so we'll get what we deserve, and shouldn't trouble the top teams unless the pace attack is Henry, Boult and Ferguson (on a good day), and not Southee or Jamieson.

I don't think Shipley is much of a white ball bowler at this level tbh. Not on these decks. He's a height + good areas guy. More of a red ball prospect imo, like KJ.

Milne could do his world's fastest Gavin Larsen thing but he's not known for durability and someone still needs to take the poles.

Economy doesn't cut it at this tournament. We need to spin guys out or blast them out. Fergusons crap form for 4 years is a huge issue. Dare I say it, we might need to quadruple down on spin. Get Sodhi in.

That’s pretty worrying for NZ given they depend a lot on getting wickets with the new ball. I suppose it means one last hurrah for the Southee-Boult combination now. Asking a lot of Jamieson to come in and hit the ground running in a format and conditions that aren’t his strength.

Also, the KSCA (where NZ play their last two group games) is on the smaller side, boundary fests to be expected. Might influence the decision on whom to play, Sodhi or Ferguson. If he does play, hopefully Jamo has learned something from his one season with RCB!

What are thinking XI for the next game then? I'd probably go something like this (assuming everyone is fit)

Conway
Ravindra
Williamson
Mitchell
Latham
Phillips
Chapman
Santner
Jamieson
Ferguson
Boult

Chapman mainly for his stats against Pakistan, and would prefer to see Jamieson take the new ball although won't be surprised if it ends up being Southee/Jamieson/Boult and KJ takes the Ferg role.

Chapman for sure if hes fit. I think even if we return to Neesham, dropping him for a game will probably make him hungrier to succeed if recalled.

Would go Neesham+Sodhi for Chapman+Jamieson myself.
