Guys i am really concerned about the semis spot rn, we desperately need to win the game against SA , which is the next match , also going to be on a high scoring ground in pune, so we get assurance of atleast 5 wins in the bank and can with either or the last 2 to qualify

if we lose next , the pressure will be immense to win both of the last games and isnt ideal at all

hopefully loss against aus due to rubbish fielding and slot bowling dosent hurt us in the end

Lol it would take an absolute meltdown of epic proportions to miss the semis from here.
Umm not necessarily. South Africa probably go into the Pune game as favourites (and are as capable of making mincemeat of NZ’s bowling on an off day as Aus), Pakistan are unpredictable, and Sri Lanka could be tricky in an elimination situation.

Odds are NZ will get there, but they’re under a bit of pressure for sure. The bowling can be fragile as both India and Australia have shown (bit of a mental test coming up for Henry in particular). The batting has been good, but well, we’re needing a lot more from the openers and Latham. Phillips too has had an ordinary couple of games with the bat.

We need to beat SA, if nothing else, so that we don't go into the final four having lost to each of the other three teams in it imo.

We just need to win one, if that. NRR is way ahead of those other sides. Losing all three would be an epic meltdown.

We could lose 2/3 by such huge margins our NRR advantage gets destroyed but I’m not sure that would actually be possible in two matches.

The last two games have been very encouraging. I feel like we’re better placed than 2019 at this stage. 2019 we were blasted off the park by the other semi-finalists in the round robin, but pulled it out of the bag in the semis and final. This time we have been very close, and pretty obvious/easy areas to improve could have got us across the line. Needed to ice the cake in the innings against India, and sort out our fielding against Australia. I’m feeling positive we can do that before the semis.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
despite the easy run chase vs England I thought when presented with a decent total to chase we'd crumble so it was a good sign we got so close last night. However, the bowling is a worry when plan a doesn't work. That first 10 to 15 and the bowlers just kept going to the same well expecting wine to suddenly come out of it instead of liquid ****.

True, captaincy also a worry, hopefully Williamson returns, because he’ll be an easy step up in that area.

Also....not world cup related but just have to mention....with rachin batting the way he does and bowling a bit better now...actually looking forward to seeing michael bracewell making a return to this odi side. Some serious batting firepower there at no.7 if he's there and can get through some overs too. Neesh, phillips and chapman there too, that's really good competition.

And tbh i feel rachin is doing much better at 3 here than we could hope from kane in this tournament. Kane might make those runs too....but a lottt slower. Rachin just keeps clearing those ropes at will PLUS the strike rotation....juicy stuff. Also, hope that sears and fisher are properly blooded after this tourney when injury free. Lockie is done and milne is not the answer.

Anyone seen anything re Ferguson's injury? If not fit, replace with Sodhi-the-ferocious-piranha-but-whose-fins-aren't-meant-for-fielding-a-cricket-ball, or Tim Southee? Or just forget bowlers and field that gross team from game 1.

In a way...but they're three very winnable, or losable, games. Win on Wednesday and we're sweet, you'd think. But if we don't - and SA are in formidable form, and likely to go hard at us like Australia did - then we play a Pakistan side that knows how to beat us, then Sri Lanka in a must-win, pressure-filled finish.

I think we'll be OK, but it's far from straight forward

Boult to de kock will be crucial. Trent always seems to have his number especially in odi world cups. Needs to go for it.
