Burns and Sibley being the openers in an England team that tried to go back to traditional test cricket had some great irony. One of the most unorthodox opening pairings of all time.

Ambrose was far more exciting than McGrath despite their styles being very similar.
Yeah extremely strange but it's true. Not like Ambrose could move the ball like Asif or Philander. And he was also pretty negative towards the end of his career. Probably has to do with him being a yard faster.

Kallis was boring but also elegant and quite good to watch aesthetically. Had a ***y cover drive and a cool looking pull shot too.

Kallis being bad is absolutely a CW meme now. But it came about due to him being retroacticely overrated by a lot of people. Pretty sure 95% of the time people talk about Kallis being bad (in Tests) it's mostly in jest.

Anderson definitely underrated here though, but not nearly by as much as he's overrated everywhere else
only because reddit and every other internet place overrates him to the moon and Saturn

While Kallis had some text book perfect shots, especially that cover drive, as a big guy he lacked the grace of others. Made him a bit more mechanical to watch. I don't think his batting was boring though, but his late career bowling definitely was.

Of players with high averages, Shiv would be the most boring for me except that his technique was so unwatchable that I'd change the channel.

I personally find players who succeed with unique or “unwatchable” techniques far more interesting to watch than those with more classical techniques.
If Shiv was slapping the ball to the boundary on a regular basis then fine, but all that funkiness in his set up just to leave ball after ball? No, ta.

Personally I enjoy the funk. The whole funk. And nothing but the funk.
