Fortunately, we have a full home season before we need to worry about permanent replacements with next test tour being NZ next year

Funny how things cycle now we've got a comp full of performing all-rounders but seriously lacking in specialist batsmen

Basically the opposite of the late 90s/00s

If any of these all-rounders are the best performing bats in the shield, they should be picked as a bat anyway with their bowling being secondary. Wouldn't surprise me to see Hardie + Green (if not more) in the test side at the same time at some point

Hardie's having a good game so far. 4 wickets and counting + 48 runs. Nice to see sutherland getting a few poles as well. If sutherland can take wickets with the old ball at international level like he has shield level, it would free up cummins to take the new ball more frequently. Scary thought.

I definitely think Neser can consider himself somewhat unlucky not to get a game at the arse end of the most recent Ashes especially, but not on account of his batting

If he was going to get a game, it would have had to been as a frontline quick batting at 8 imo, there is a strong argument he could be considered one of the best bowling options for English conditions with his ability with the stick just being a handy bonus
