England thread

Does anyone else get the impression that the world cup has sailed under the radar of popular consciousness more than usual? Amid the rugby World Cup, the Ryder Cup and the steady drumbeat of football it seems that there is hardly any mention of the World Cup at all outside of specialist cricket publications and fora. While this was also the case during the long years when expectations of England were low, I thought that there would be more this time as defending champions and with a good chance of going deep again.

If Dawson had of been tried in odis and t20s this summer instead of mo, he likely wouldn't have had the season in the cc he has just had for hamps. Which may have meant he wouldn't be considered for our test tours this winter

He's doing his job, holding anchor while the hitters fall around him!

About to run out of hitters and then we can worry about his 50 SR

This innings is painful, thing is Brook still not doing much better, so not sure we can drop him.
Agree we can't drop him. Which is why we're in trouble if he's playing like he is today. Or like he did in the recent NZ series. Or, *whisper it*

How he has played in ODIs for the past 4 years.

I think you should stick money on him top scoring in the World Cup, it's like Crawley in the Ashes.

I think we do, trying to win a game by playing sensibly clearly has no place in this team.
Whilst this innings my well work out okay for us, he's clearly woefully out of nick, he used to go at 70 whilst plodding along effortlessly. Hey though maybe he just needs time in the middle.

Do wonder if topley has cemented himself in the team here, between him and Curran I'd have thought, but maybe Woakes.

Averages under 30 since 2019.

Great knock from Mo so swings and roundabouts between him and Joe.

Okay what we thinking for Saturday. I think Woakes and Curran both need a spell but I can’t find a satisfactory way to have Stokes and Willey/Atkinson replace them which is what deep down is like to do.

Be in Greece and forget the cricket exists.

Albeit no doubt the bastards will try and hook me in.

Wankhede has been a road for a longtime in the T20 games. Not much to go off in recent times for ODI's there. Hope we read it better than today's pitch in terms of selection and the decision if we win the toss.

Balance of the side is buggered tbh. Were light in the batting without Moeen but we need 4 seamers too. If only stokes could bowl the Ashes and this would both have been better.

Dunno what to do as our bowling is weak and it will get punished if it's as flat as I'd expect.

I think the truth is in the last couple of seasons, ODIs have been the bottom of our priority list.

We've hardly ever played our 1st choice 11 as we've used them as a chance to rest those players that play tests in particular.

All sorts of players have been called up, with most knowing they had next to no chance of actually making the WC squad.

We hoped that somehow it would all come together in the WC - well it hasn't and whilst all is not quite lost, it would take a significant change of form to make the last 4 now.
