*Official* New Zealand tour of UAE and England 2023

G. S. Kohli

International Vice-Captain
All retired while Jimmy still going strong. How many debuted after Jimmy or at least around the same time.
He is playing for eng so even at 40 plus he hold his place in the team, he should retire by now.
( This is Fact even if he bowl half day ( 3 hours) he not get success but same time he not Lick runs at all)

Jimmy one of the greatest swing bowler i ever seen, ya many many players debut & also left but jimmy is still not out.

Surprised about the huge reaction to a few JAMT20Is tbh.

Yeah it's closeish to full strength and it might be a little bit of a tell of deeper problems that already existed, but seriously guys, these games were meant for entertainment, not for any deep analysis. It only matters how NZ play if you're watching the game; I don't think there's anything to take out of it. Whatever your opinion of the state of the team and the squad etc before this series should still be your opinion, good or bad.
JAMT20Is that have been shown FTA, where the good people of New Zealand can watch them over their breakfast instead of morning cartoons.

Totally, these are some of the most pointless international games played in history, I reckon. I can barely even be bothered looking up the results. World Cup coming up and we're playing T20s.
The results are meaningless, yes, but the performances are indicative of a greater malaise.

Of course there's a 4th game! Whatever would we do without it?

Feeling more and more peeved about this one. It's a long time away from home – they can cope. There's hardly any need for resting otherwise: they've hardly played, apart from county cricket and very important North American T20 leagues, since May. Even then, surely if you want to rest some players it should be for the unimportant England T20Is? It's the ****ing World Cup and they don't care, ffs.
Good point...great point. More than enough glucose in the muscles for cash cow meaningless north American leagues, but the reserves are drained and need to be replenished instead of touring Bangladesh for a total of 3 games over 5 days?? Welcome to modern day cricket.

Re the team for Bangladesh, I don't mind it. Those not selected (apart from Neesham and Chapman awaiting impending births) are certs for the CWC. I guess there are still 3 or 4 debatable selections so this is last chance saloon for them.

I dunno, I'd rather the guys who are bolted in XI players got more match practice. If we're looking to still lock down spots just over a week before the tournament, that's not an ideal place to be.

In the squad, I'd reckon Allen Boult Sodhi and maybe Young (if/when Kane not fit) are in our best XI. Lockie or Milne I guess could push in, the rest aren't required or we've seen enough to not consider them.

I don't actually know what my preffered team looks like and I've missed all these T20s because I'm saving my sleep sacrifices for the big dance, but based on the chat in here and on scorecards I think Milne has leapfrogged Ferguson who tbh shouldn't make the 15.

It cuts me to say that because Ferguson is arguably our biggest wasted talent of my time and I hope he gets more than one test at peak form, but yeah we need to win games now and he's not helping.

I can't ****ing believe the guys we have given more tests than him while he has been available since 2017 or so though tbh.

No question Milne is ahead in the pecking order, to my mind.

Ferguson doesn't feel like a lost cause in Tests to me. We had a formidable bowling line up throughout his best years and whilst he had some longevity in playing injury-free FC at times, I doubt he could've handled all formats at top level. We got some good years in ODIs, 2019 World Cup especially, but he looks cooked

I think our T20 bowling attack (and maybe ODI to a lesser extent) is looking pretty stale, possibly worse than the batting tbh. Not uncommon to see them all go at 10s like this series. Boult and formerly Ferguson were our two top-tier bowlers who took wickets, and are now absent. Southee and now-Ferguson pretty mid level. Sodhi in T20s like a ferocious predator getting his food from a vending machine - pines for the open prairie of test cricket.

Pleased to see Milne go a little better - last 18 months he's probably spent the most time on the park of his entire career, so nice if that translates into performance.

There aren't any young bowlers I'm aching to see brought into the limited overs set up though - contrast England who've had another two appear who bowl a heavy ball (TM) and immediately look like they could succeed. So we'll tick along with the current crop regularly conceding 200 (though Henry will help in ODIs). And our spin bowling reserves - eesh, there aren't any.

Ferguson could have more time to play test cricket if he gets dropped from the white ball sides *taps head*

World T20 is in June next year (WI and USA).

If they want a specialist leggie hopefully Ashok has taken Ish's spot in the starting lineup by then. Ravindra and Pringle should be decent back up for Santner, and Macewell, Foxcroft, Phillips are okay off spin options. I can't see McConchie still being an option.

What seems weird to me is that some of those rested players are playing in this series. Surely T20Is vs England make more sense to take a rest from than ODIs in Bangladesh right before an ODI World Cup in India.

Resting players from an ODI tour to the sub-continent right before an ODI World Cup on the sub-continent….make it make sense. And Lockie as Captain as well….
Would have been golden opportunity to get first stringers attuned to sub-continent conditions before the start of the WC.
