What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

This for me too. I have watched most of the matches played by both. Kumble was never intimidating to opponents as Ashwin and Jadeja are at home.
Ashwin was literally sending stumps flying in 2015 when South Africa toured India, never seen Kumble do that even on raging turners.

Haha 'he didn't send stumps flying' is the dumbest argument for a bowler being better ever. It's still out even if it just disturbs the bails ffs.
Don't you know the wicket has added value if you send the stumps flying. Even though nobody knows what the added value is.

Rating Ashwin over Kumble based on home performance is silly.

I have zero doubt that if Kumble had the same pitches as Ashwin did this last decade, he would have a home record to match or exceed his. Even in the 90s, when pitches were more supportive but not as spicy as they have been in the last decade, Kumble averaged 21 at home. And he didn't have a spin twin of Jadeja's quality at the other end keeping things tight.

What is funny is how nobody rated Kumble at that time the way certain posters see Ashwin nowadays, because it was understood Kumble was a limited homebasher.

It is only in the 2000s when Kumble did a bit better away from home that he earned more respect.

Well you don't exactly have a great standard for anything @subshakerz so why do you want everyone else to follow it? Can't make a point for it without twisting yourself into pretzels over subjective methods of rating cricketers.

Point out which is subjective otherwise it is an empty ad hominem.

Ashwin's record at home is incredibly misleading, a result of a level of pitch preparation that is a historical aberration. His own skill level is a matter of debate but given the paucity of his SENA returns, it makes sense to rate him below Kumble and others.

It's everything here? I've been pretty consistent this whole thread about your methods being dogshit, but for some reason you've decided reading is optional.

All your arguments in all threads suddenly seem a lot more convincing, for some reason you seem much smarter and I want to listen more to you.

If I'm playing against India in SENA I'd much rather be facing Ash/Jad than Kumble. Kumble just had more danger about him in those conditions.

On a dustbowl no contest though. AshJad are the last guys you want to face

It's hard to compare them as they played in different eras. But both are of similar quality in bowling. So there's not much to argue about. It would just come to personal preference.

It's not about being the better bowler, but more like who looked more threatening. Getting out to a bouncer would reflect the same as getting out to a length ball on paper, but visually one can decipher easily what is more devastating to face.

Kumble achieved more outside India but he had a lot more oppertunity. Kumble toured England four times and on three of those he got a full series. Ashwin's average in England is a fair whack better than Kumble's (28 vs 41) but Ashwin has played less than half of India's tests here since 2014. I'm inclined to think Ashwin's overseas record would look a bit richer that it is if he were trusted as much as Kumble was.

Yes it is unfortunate that the Indian team management has destroyed Ashwin and Jadeja's legacy by not playing both of them in all away tests. Even if they failed in one or two, they both should have been persisted with all tests especially since they contribute with bat too. Hopefully India does that in the next couple of years at the least till they retire.
