What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

It is no secret that spiced up pitches have contributed significantly to giving Ashwin and Jadeja stellar looking home records.

However, at the same time, you also had several other touring spinners receive bonanza returns as well in this period:

- Lyon 19 wickets@25 and 22 wickets @22
- Tahir 14 wickets @21
- Harmer 10 wickets@25
- O Keefe 19 wickets @23
- Leach 18 wickets @28
- Murphy 14 wickets @25
- Patel 17 wickets @22

The question is what would those records for Ashwin and Jadeja look like if they debuted in the early 2000s without the spicy pitches?

India had an awesome spinner who debuted around the same time period we're discussing here...his name was Ramesh Powar...he got discarded like a used you know what.

A kid over in the neighboring Bangladesh took an inspiration in Powar's action and ultimately was the player of the series in the Under-19 World Cup 2016

The away pitches aided spinners a lot more a decade back than now, especially SENA whose boards have become smarter now. So, Ashwin and Jadeja would have averaged late 20s away a decade back and low 20s at home. So, their record would look exactly the same a decade back as it is now.

Yes, this is what I think too. He would have struggled to get a spot since he can't bat and doesn't provide a major advantage over Ashwin or Jadeja in terms of bowling..

Kumble has seven first class tons and was batting 6 or 7 in Ranji when he was first called up. If he needed to take his batting more seriously to get in the side he definitely could have done it IMO.

I think he was better bowler than Ashwin and would have been selected on that basis.
