As usual the ball starting to talk a bit more after first 10. Why scoring early is vital whilst there isn't a pronounced shine

England's openers have now made it to 30+ 10 times in this series. It's the first time England have done that since the 2010/11 Ashes, and before that the previous three occasions were the 2009 Ashes, 2005 Ashes and 2004/5 win in SA.

Basically, every time England have pulled off an impressive winning series against strong opposition in the 21st century. Otherwise, they don't do it, and they certainly don't do it in recent years. So what they are doing up top - consistently racing to 30+ before you inevitably get out - is a very effective way of turning mediocre players into those who are doing an important job.

My biggest criticism of Crawley over the winter (apart from catching) was how dog**** he was at making a start. At one point his median score was 10. This is real improvement even if you disregard his hundred for being a fluke (it was) and whether or not you think he's actually got a proper future as a test cricketer (probably not).

Whatever the series score be whether 2-2 or 2-1 after this test, Australia needs to do some serious overall self evaluation.

English bowlers are making Warner and Khawaja earn every run, while Crawley/Duckett are finding ways to hit fours. Let that sink in.

Australia hasn't won in England for twenty years. It's hard. We don't need a Royal Commission into it.

Wonder what the Australians will moan about when we crush them

- The Weather being too dry
- "We didn't have Cam Green"
- "Gary, we miss Gary"

Yeah not everyone can be Sri Lanka
We were up 2-0 after 2 here, so assuming a similar length of series to 2014 Australia would've won in a whitewash

I guess that shows just how hard 5 Test series away from home is, and shows how impressive 2010/11 was.

I think this series also shows just how crucial bowling depth is for teams too. Wood and Woakes coming back in changed the series.
