Yeah Tongue over Anderson would be a ridiculous overreaction.

They should be picking the OT team with The Oval in mind though. There’s a lesson in having won this game off big performances by the two fresh bowlers.
I'd pick Tongue ahead of Anderson based on who I think would give the Aussies the most problems.

If we play Broad and Woakes, then Jimmy is in that mould, so isn't going to add a whole lot that they wouldn't. I'm not writing Jimmy off but he just didn't look right in the 1st two tests. If he's back to 100% full fitness then obviously he comes into the equation.

Tongue though, has that extra bit of pace and that caused the Aussies plenty of issues at Lords.

He bowls about 5mph quicker than the likes of Broad and Co and that would mean we could bowl Wood in really short sharp bursts.

I think Jimmy will play but as much as I love him, I'd go with Tongue.

I'm not brave enough to predict the result at Old Trafford.
However, if it is 2-2 after that match, I will predict that the excitement going into the 5th test will be almost unparallelled. Possibly as much as going into the 5th test in 2005, which is the only one I can remember that would be close.
It'd be even more as England would have to win at Oval this time

Must be pretty gutted for Australia to get England 170 for 6 and lose that but then again I can't recall many close calls in that Woakes/Brooks partnership. Sure there was the odd play and miss but they batted normally.

Australia would need to win the next test because if England gets to the final with two back to back wins, they will be hard to stop. It's incredible to see the levels of belief they had through out this game whilst being 2 zip down they would feel nigh invincible if they level it after being two zip down.
I think the belief comes from the fact that both the 1st two tests were so close and we really should have won the first one.

I think the next Test will be another close affair and it'll be the odd catch dropped/taken or a bit of magic that will settle it.

Forget cricket, The Ashes is the pinnacle of sport. I live in Poland and was trying to explain the significance to a co-worker. I was searching for some point of comparison and realised there isn't one in another sport. There's no particular reason these series should be so special, yet magically they nearly always are.

Those guys like Brook and Duckett deserve a lot of credit this series. They might not be the most technical but they have toughed it out all series and played some valuable knocks and scored at a quick rate. I really didn’t think it would be Brook taking England over the line the last innings

Still no highlights btw, anyone else having the same problem?

Better come on tonight at some point.

Had a good look at the series stats, as I usually do after Tests 3, 4 and 5

Zak is averaging more than Steve Smith
Aus batting this series hasn’t been great a lot of their innings has been saved by a big score by one their batters. Englands batting isn’t much better either but least most their top batters have had a decent score or two. Englands long batting line up was the difference this game

I can’t remember the exact stat but TMS basically said before that for 1-4 and 7-11 it’s Aus’s worst batting Test since the 1920s
