Suspect they felt Bairstow had such an amazing season last year they had to find a place for him. Unfortunately, he's not in the same form and his keeping is well below that of Foakes. Not sure what his preparation was like coming back from a serious leg injury.

They could have found a batting place for him, its not like Crawley was going gangbusters.

Instead they've arrived at the worst outcome which has upset the balance of the team and shot his batting confidence.
