Not walking on a fine edge to the keeper is waaay different to what Broad did though. That was akin to hitting it down mid on's throat and standing there. Stupidity in the main, imo
Broad did edge it to the keeper - it went off Haddin's gloves to the slip. That's what made it look bad, not just the edge itself. It was a decent edge, but it looked so much worse as Haddin was standing up and it went off his gloves to the slip.

I mean, the bloody hypocrisy accusations can be thrown every direction. Some critiquing the English crowd reaction here need to have a good look at some of the Australian crowd behaviour over the years who then in turn need to look at NZ crowd behaviour etc. etc. People are hypocrites, and righteous indignation won't change that.

They're obviously not the same but at some point every single individual incident differs in some way. If you're trying to look for an exactly identical case of something which only happens rarely, then you're going to be looking for a long time. There's obviously similarities in some ways.
Yeah, but the critical difference for me is one involves a batsman trying to gain an advantage over the bowling side while the other doesn't. It's analogous to mankading, which I've been pretty vocal in my support for the normalisation of.

Anyway, none of this is on par with that time Shane Thompson played a forward defensive, didn't realise his backfoot had dragged out of his crease, and silly mid-off threw his stumps down while he was still holding the pose for the cameras. That's dozy.

Yeah, there's hardly a cricket game I've been to where somebody wasn't acting like a drunken pilock and abusing the players. Also remember that blog post by Iain O'Brien about a game he played in Australia where he lost track of the number of times he was called the other F word while fielding in the outfield.

Yeah fans abusing players from the crowd is a total meh to me but I think the special nature of the Long Room with the players having to walk through means they should be held to a higher standard. If you want to call opposition players cheating ***** then sit in the stands.

I hope our players are hurting from this defeat.

Root, Pope, Brook, Duckett- all out hooking when we were right on top.

Forget about the Bairstow dismissal etc, that's where we lost this match.

Some matches you lose, some the opposition win - this is very much in the former category for me.
Yeah those hooking wickets are the things which makes my blood boil and leave me absolutely pig sick in equal measure

One is for reasons of batting. The other is because there's some silly social convention that you have to have a mid-pitch chin-wag between each over, which not prescribed by the laws whereas being able to be run out when the ball is live is.

Just to clear this up again, regardless of whether you think someone should walk or not (I'm definitely in the non-walking crowd, you'd have to drag me away from the crease), most of the deflection was off the bat, not the keeper's gloves.

He nicked it, it hit the keeper and then it went to slip. That’s why the ‘HE HIT IT TO SLIP AND DIDN’T WALK’ narrative is so disingenuous. The fact it came off the keeper in the first place is why the umpire was confused.

Yeah this totaly. The crowd reaction is just normal and would happen anywhere......but you know it's kind of expected that players should be free from that crap once they enter the pavilion and are walking into their changeroom.

And that's before you consider how dire it is to see 70 - 80yr old's fronting up to 30yr athletes. I'd like to think some of those old ***** got their MCC membership revoked but I very much doubt it.

Maybe try reading again. This canard gets brought up again and again it was just a thin nick. It was about 75% off the bat, the sharp angle being why it deflected off Haddin's hands rather than him having a chance. It was a shocking piece of umpiring.

Three have been suspended apparently. I think it's the right call, even though earlier reports of physical contact seem to be (thankfully) incorrect.

If they want to pay their money to get drunk and abuse the players then I don't mind (said Cribb replying to Adders ) but they forfeit their special direct access to players walking through the pavillion if so; they can do it with the Barmy Army.
