That's just not accurate. The quality players would play for a county that does have FC status. That's how it works everywhere in the world.

Also more teams = weaker competetion = creates less top class players
Durham have produced more North-East born test cricketers in their 30 year history than the rest of the counties have collevtively since test cricket began.

That suggests that it is harder to find another county if you are a talented local cricketer. Some will do it but not everyone.

There is plenty of cricket in the ACT and NT, and the good players the produce move and play for States in the Shield if they can. They don't "need a team" in the Shield. There would be nothing but negative outcomes from that

The ACT had a Shield team. They were... not very good

I think if we got another team in the shield you could produce a team thats roughly shield quality, you'de just need a quality coach like gillespie to make sure you get your signings right. NSW have a billion spinners in the pipeline who are good enough to be playing and there's guys like solway running around who are definitely good enough to be playing shield cricket.
