Only 4 balls (from 9 overs) would have hit the stumps
Thought it would be something like that. I think England could have bowled a bit straighter, but it's clearly conditions to go for the edge.

A good question is what is a good percentage? Certainly varies with the conditions, if this was a test in India then four balls in nine overs would be very poor.

That "hit the stumps" line feels like one of the most misleading stats that's constantly thrown around
Haha yeah specially in England too. The whole point is to draw the batsman into playing at balls that aren't hitting the stumps. Most balls that hit the stumps are too straight and work best as change ups.

It’s a fair criticism quite often, it’s common for bowlers to waste the new ball bowling wide against openers that are happy to leave. But definitely not here. It’s getting overused.

This is my problem with it. It's always thrown out with zero context and no understanding of what constitutes a "good" hit rate.

Cricket is an important part of our national heritage, but how can we enjoy England vs Australia when much of the cricketing world is becoming unfit for humans to live in? We can no longer afford to distract ourselves when the sports we play, the food we eat, and the culture we cherish is at risk."
