I considered going to Zim to watch this but couldn’t justify the expense.

sadly expect SL and WI to qualify fairly easily. I think what the ICC has done to the World Cup is a disgrace.

I think SL will bully most of the teams here but I don't think WI will. They should be favourites but I think that spot is up for grabs. I'm really excited for this tournament despite agreeing with you about how disgraceful it is that so few qualify from it.

I love the concept of a tournament that pits the top Associates vs the weakest Full Members with plenty at stake, as the cricket will be fantastic to watch and we'll get some great moments from it. But I hate how this is treated as a 2nd tier tournament and not a part of the actual world cup.

The way football does it - many small groups, every game high stakes, and then leading into the KO stages - is ideal.

Yeah I wouldn't mind doing it how the T20 World Cup does it and just having this as the opening stage of the WC proper - right before it, in the same host country.

Six teams (well it'll be five because Zimbabwe auto-qualify as hosts, but there will be 14 total in the main event) qualify from this tournament instead of two in 2026 though which is definitely a step in the right direction.

Nepal are totally going on an Afghanistan-like run here and Lamichanne's dodgy character aside, that's ****ing awesome for cricket. Definitely the non-Test-playing nation that loves cricket the most.

I really think Zimbabwe could make better use of the spot they give to Wellington Masakadza. He's fine but his bowling role could definitely be covered by the spin bowling allrounders in the top order; I'd love to see either the batting shored up or Evans play. They've used seven bowlers and Burl hasn't been one of them.
