Very wet here (20 miles from Canterbury) again this morning - there is no doubt that luck plays a part when the season starts as early as it has this year. It's unlikely a game would have enough playing time to reach a positive conclusion if today/tomorrow were part of the 4 days. As it was Kent benefitted from winning the toss and batting twice on the best days (Friday & yesterday) and managed to conjure 20 wickets despite only selecting 3 specialist bowlers, one of whom broke down early on Saturday. So full marks to the attack, esp. Evison who stepped up and ended with 4 wickets in the 2nd innings.

This is the first time Kent have won their first match of the season for 6 years - all Kent supporters will be hoping that this portends well for the rest of the season. Goodness knows who will be bowling for us at Warwickshire though. ?

As it stands, Brown and Barker are quietly rebuilding the Hampshire innings towards something respectable; and probably something competitive once Hampshire's quicks get cracking in these conditions.

I was watching Notts v Somerset. What should've been bowler friendly conditions were largely wasted by Somerset and Duckett helped himself to 75. Hameed far less fluent but going ok now, his strike rate tells you why he wouldn't be considered for England.

In another time, Ben Brown might have played for England, a fine keeper who averages 40 with the bat in FC cricket, almost 10,000 runs, pretty stiff.
