English Domestic Season 2023

Toby Roland-Jones passes 500 first class wickets with a 7fer against Essex.
His form with bat and ball has been superb the past year or so. If broad or Anderson call it quits and TRJ can keep his body together wouldn't mind seeing him play a few home summers as a#8.

I doubt it. Quite a few county medium pace bowlers have extended their careers quite successfully beyond 35 but wouldn't have them anywhere near the England side.

I'm not really saying he should ever play for England again, but the difference between him or a Masters, Wright or Richardson is he played for England and was very good, and was only ever displaced because he was injured.

I would say that it would need a cataclysmic run of injuries, of the type they had last year at this time, when he didn't get a look in then, but after having a great year, if something like that did happen, say Broad and Anderson injured, then I'd rather have him than Potts.

Helps the batting too, but it hopefully won't happen ATM, Mahmood, Anderson, Broad, Stone, Wood, Archer, Robinson are all remarkably fit, even if not quite match-fit. Think only Broad and Anderson were when we rocked up for the first Test last year.

TRJ had a strong debut against Saf, but got injured at the wrong time and was never in contention afterwards. Could've had an Ollie Robinson type career had he not been so unlucky.

Mcandrew starting the county season well. 5-83 and 34* so far. He's the exact kind of cricketer who would give the current Australian team an x-factor if green's bowling is good enough.

Odd scorecard at Lord's, with Middlesex's first five wickets falling for 20 (itself a recovery from 4 for 4), the last five wickets falling for 23 and, in between, a 6th wicket partnership of 127 to make sure they weren't completely embarrassed.

Durham throwing away their game at Sussex.

Were 213-1 in the first innings all out for 370 odd had Sussex 240-7 and they put on another 100 for the last 3.

Now Durham 70-5 with a lead of 111 in the third innings.

Rehan Ahmed on 85 not out at lunch against Yorkshire. Be class if he can get a second first class ton already. Some talent already at 18, he got a bit of tap with the ball mind so hopefully he can keep his bowling ticking along better than his batting!

Umpires go off for Tea with the scores level & Hampshire 131-2 needing 1 run to win.
Seriously, why just not play one more over.

They got a train ticket booked for 6.45 so the longer there drag it out there less time to waste?

Great to see some backbone from the Northants batters at last. Super ton from Keogh.

Essex have comprehensively outbowled Middlesex, TRJ included.

I gather they looked pretty comfortable yesterday, and they do bat deep. Mike Atherton's commentary on LancsTV was instructive throughout, and he reckoned that pitches at Old Trafford get easier for batting as the match progresses.
