This kind of deck is the exact kind of pitch where pant will be sorely missed. Iyer is back at least, but the two of them have a nasty habit of smashing a quick 100 runs between them on these kind of mindfields. Don't know if Bharat has the same in him

Kuhnemann has a very similar action to Grant Flower. To me:
1. He's probably not actually chucking; it just looks weird because of the hyper-extension.
2. Picking Grant Flower as a specialist bowler would be a new low. We may have got there.

Joe Root and Micheal Clarke has taken hauls for **** all here in India. I'm not saying this pitch is/isn't that bad but seeing some grubbers in the last session gives me the impression that this be a close thing
But that's true for pretty much everywhere, for example Roston Chase took an 8-for against England in the Caribbean with just his arm ball

Lyon has just been so disappointing. Just really really mediocre
He is being found out. Has never really been that good. At least not as good as what others have said. Good bowler yes but is too one dimensional. Imagine him bowling to the likes of Tendulkar and Lara - he would get hammered. Those two would have a field day and use their feet.

50-60 run lead would be game over either way!

Aus gets it, no way India gets back in.

India gets it, Australia will be like 4 down even before reaching 50.

So any 50+ lead is game over.

I almost feel like india are better serving up decks like nagpur then this kind of wicket if they wanna consistently win vs AUS. We have 3 guys in smith, marnus and usman who are all capable of playing the kind of knock that can get you a par score, and the amount of assistance the wicket gives the spinner almost neutralises the gap between Ashwin-Axar-Jadeja and our spinners.

If pitch starts behaving viciously. There won't be much of a difference between the 3rd innings and the 4th innnings. So batting last will be fairly similar to batting in the 3rd innings.

So I really don't get this constant jabber about batting last.

Batting last will only be clearly harder if the 3rd innings is a long one (allowing pitch to deteriorate a lot more). If 3rd innings is 2 sessions or less, it won't be too different in 4th. And it also depends on whether or not pitch loses its pace. If it does lose pace, 4th innings may not necessarily be the absolute worst.

I hope we get an example of this in this test so people can stop holding this preconceived notion in their heads that 4th innings is always the worst time to bat in SC

So after looking at it slowly over and over, there is definitely a jerking motion but there is also certainly significant hyperextension as well which I think makes the action look worse than it is.

These are the best stills I can get. I’ll make a slow-mo gif later.

I am not convinced he’s breaking any rules now though it looked bad as I was watching live.
Look at the Indian batter at non stiker keeping the bat grounded, not cheating by backing up.

Axar's looked pretty toothless two games running now. Not inaccurate, just meh. His batting's a huge asset in this lineup; do we give him the series and hope his bowling recovers some venom or does Kuldeep get a look-in soon?

WTF are you guys talking? Aus have scored 263 not 363 . If we are feeling under confident even after restricting opposition to 263, then we should drop our entire batting order .

If Axar has a poor 3rd innings (0-1 wicket), he should be replaced by Kuldeep.

Rohit doesn't seem to trust him over Jadeja and Ashwin either. Sometimes you need a longer spell to find your zone but Rohit hasn't allowed that to happen!

When we have three spinners one of them is bound to under perform. Don't think I would really worry about Axar's performance right now looking at just 3 innings.

Needless to say that his partnership with Jadeja is what put India in a comfortable position in first test.

Yeah, reaction a bit ott , there were stretches of the game where the pitch looked fairly benign as well.

He may fail with his dodgy form but Pujara can also be a real handful on this.

Whatever it takes!!!

Wasn't he found to be chucking? Grant?

Well Rohit did the same to Kuldeep when Axar was bowling him to wins against Eng two years ago. Faithless bastard
