Daniel Hughes with his annual “I look test class” knock today.

Good to see the better Agar taking wickets too. My man Nathan McAndrew not even required
The Michael Klinger of NSW/today’s generation.

Great to see McSweeney ton up again, but I wonder if the decleration could have came a bit earlier perhaps. 468 in four and a half sessions the target for WA, wouldn't be too stunned to see them look to shut up shop right from early

Genuinely not sure, not used to South Australia being in a position where a decleration decision needs to be made in the first place. Good problem to have tbqh

Okay, seems like a reasonable time to speculate about who are the next generation of long form Australian players

I don’t have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the domestic scene so any input would be appreciated

Only guys in early to mid 20s who have shown something

Queensland

Bartlett - quietly building a solid fc record with the ball and swings it at decent pace. Also has talent with the bat but is only just stopportunities

Street - very solid defensively but needs to develop a couple of go to shots

NSW

Vics

Murphy obviously

Sutherland - see Bartlett

Tassie

Meredith - good pace and is starting to swing it

McDermott - good technique but seems to have lost his way this season

SA

See NSW

WA

Hardie - probably a better bat than bowler at this point

Morris - genuinely quick

Green obviously

Top order cupboard looks pretty bare without Pucovski

What age range do you mean exactly? Ward is 24, hunt is 26, Daniel drew isn't exactly on those twos level but is 25. All of them are on streets level in terms of potential. Kellaway is also another one who's done well, averaging 32 in FC cricket in his first few games at a young age despite walking to the crease really early on some bowling friendly wickets so far in his career, also made a 100 vs the touring SA side earlier in the summer but the game didn't have FC status.

Its a bit concerning that there's no young guys bar green and Pucovski dominating the shield, but smith and marnus are both still young enough to have 5 years of test cricket in them, and theres enough in the shed to support them.

Ben mcdermott is such a frustrating red ball player. Has all the shots and the white ball record and looks decent at points in redball but throws away so many starts.

Definitely underacheived a bit relative to his talent level imo, looks better than his FC average of about 31ish suggests. Even allowing for Bellerive being a tough place to bat generally, that is well short of where it could be

Yeah he should at least be averaging high 30s. He's struggled to even hold his spot at times, and it's not like they're blessed for batting talent down there.
