Nah, most attractive, best nickname, 4th most wickets. Top tier bloke.
Only one of these is true (if I presume he has 4th most wickets).

Genuinely putrid bloke.
His nickname, if we're going for Garry, sucks. Named after an AFL player no one outside of Victoria knows, who shagged his mate's wife behind his back. Although to be fair, that kinda suits the cricketing Lyon, too.
And attractive...I saw him in the South Yarra 7Eleven after a state day's play, he looks like the aliens sent down someone to infiltrate cricket and figure out what the **** is going on there.

Incidentally, why isn't it Ashwin? Purely because of his record against Australia? Because he's a tool? Kumble's record against Australia isn't flash, either, not sure what sort of bloke he is.

I would've thought the answer is Ashwin every day of the week. Keen to hear the counterargument, however.

While Kumble's away record is more sizeable it's also pretty average and isn't necessarily enough to counter the number of games Ashwin has won by himself for India at home.

Ashwin has a handful of decisive away performances in SENA in his career. Ashwin has hardly any and not a single fifer either.

Kumble has probably won a similar number of home games and had nowhere near the bowling support that Ashwin had.

Is Ashwin a better home bowler? Yes but the difference is not that big. He had massive pitch assistance when even foreign no-name spinners were taking buckets of wickets.

Similar number of games but played a lot more.

I agree that Ashwin had a lot of assistance from the pitches but it really is a stupid level of dominance from him.

My personal opinion is if Kumble had the pitches ash did, he would have had a 7-fer or 8-fer every series and a 20/21 average in India.

You could argue ash was a more valuable spinner to India while Kumble was a more well rounded skilled spinner.

Ashwin has DRS, a pace attack and rightly or wrongly, gets hidden away a lot.

Kumble was the main man for most of his time in an era where old biddies with failing eyesight made the decisions without consideration for the existence of leg stump and had to front up every game.

Like, I'm piling on Ashwin a bit and Kumble was a childhood fave but DRS has been such a (correct) boon for spinners. It's made the game so much better.

Yup. Kumble with DRS would have been much more deadlier.

So while I think Ashwin is a better home bowler, the difference is not that pronounced. And Kumble is a much better foreign bowler.

Kumble, but not by much. Him and Ashwin clearly the best by a long margin ahead of the others.
