Philippe having a beastly one-day cup so far. Wonder if he's done enough to leapfrog head as finch's replacement.

Not sure what to make of Philippe this season tbh, making plenty of 50 over runs but has really done sfa in the Shield

Jason Sangha's mighty 26(14) today has taken his list A average from 8 to 11, surely ensuring his place in the blues side for the next 3 years atleast.

Big hundred from Daniel Hughes - is he going to get an ODI call up for Aus some time soon? Like I get he's almost 34, and his record is a bashing of second-string bowling attacks in his prime, but still: he averages nigh on 60 with two hundreds in three matches this season. (Hain notwithstanding)

He averages 55 in the history of the comp, selectors have just always prioritized big bash stars or potential players. Same reason heazlett struggled to get a game.

Yeah the way the Marsh (or whatever it's called now) Cup has been treated is a joke. Hughes absolutely deserved an ODI cap or two along the way.

With the rise of T20s, the 50 over game is redundant and I am convinced that it only exists because the ICC wants the revenue from WC & Champions Trophy

CA treats it like a red haired stepchild and just jams the games in whenever while ignoring performances like those produced by Hughes

Meanwhile, virtually no one attends

one dayers could probably survive with only one ball per innings and a better mix of pitches

Sadly the Mercantile Mutual Cup glory days are looooooooooooooong gone, no chance of ever getting back to that in this day and age. Not something I like saying but sadly that conclusion is insecapale

Honestly I feel like if Hughes was ever going to get a chance, it would have happened a couple of years back. Must be a strange and frustrating feeling to boss a competition like this and be largely ignored because because CA really doesn't give two shits about said competition

IIRC it's still a somewhat popular format in Asia? If it declines there then it likely becomes largely non-existant outside of World Cup's.

I'm not sure it will or at least I hope not. the format remains one of the best hopes for associates gaining international game time that allows them to develop strategies and innings. That format coupled with their players hopefully getting contracts for fc teams seem to be the best way to develop an eventual test team.

Would you back head for the home summer or nah? Lad has a fantastic home record, but he's dogdicks away from home and looks in absolutely horrid touch in the shield atm. SA and WI both have incredibly strong attacks and a decent bit of diversity/depth in there options, I don't see head lasting long against them unless we give him a junction oval pitch.
Eh bloke made a ton on that hobart pitch against a perfectly good attack. He is fully capable of playing couple of match winning knocks against SA

Nic Carruthers for Bankstown v Parra in the first grade T20 made 99 of 38 today. 10 sixes and 5 fours. His numbers this season are crazy good. Should have a bbl contract

Corey Richards will probably get him a gig with the Thunder.

Safe to say Harris and Handscomb finding life a little harder away from the sort of roads they get at home

You love to see it

Whatever you think of them, it's pretty worrying to think Harris, Handscomb and Maddinson are probably the next in line for test selection. Qld's attack is good but you'd have hoped 3 test hopefuls would've been able to score more than a handful against them. If they're our next best I wish our present top six good luck, good health and a desire to play in their 40s.
