rahul at 5 means we do not need an extra bat. he will be a safe batsman if he comes into bat against a ball that is not moving much

Yes, even I had a lot of confidence on KL but he is total KLPD now. He will be a safe batsman, yes. But if he plays too safe, then it will be to the detriment of the team.

had a comparable career as a batsman to yuvraj singh. way worse as a bowler who would have been smashed or never bowled at all if dhoni wasn't captain who used him well

nah klpd has no brain as an opener. if he does not have to think about too much and just has to react to the match situation he will be way better as a batsman

i would ideally drop him but not now with no backup in the squad. i think DK is worse given how he choked vs Pak and why he is selected for that exact scenario

I thought and still think very highly of him. But he doesn't seem to be capable of doing well in red ball and white ball simultaneously. To think that KL has Surya kind of 360 degree hitting ability but won't use it, smh.

5 bowlers is really really ok. They have to bowl just 4 overs a piece in this format. Batting is where we have a problem. I like the idea of playing Rahul at #5 and Pant as opener.

We should have groomed more batters honestly (Shaw, Samson ... I am sure there are more) rather than filling half the squad with 6th bowling options.

Hopefully for this series against NZ straight after the WC, we can get Jaiswal to debut. He is one with potential as one of the few specialist batsmen who can bowl.

I agree with people calling for Rishabh Pant ...
Rahul is talented he has a very good T20 record but his problem is just like a lot of the SA players , very reactive player to the occasion and where he is Batting , Pant on the other hand is fearless he will play his game no matter what and he has the BMT needed for knockout games .

If DK is legit injured then we should be able to get an injury replacement for him. Quite a few players have put in decent performances in the SMAT - Nitish Rana, Tilak Verma, Rajat Patidar. Might be more useful in the middle order than Hooda/Axar? Tilak and Rana both lefties too, and Tilak can bowl as well.

I think Axar is in out of his depth as a number 7. If Pant comes in as opener, maybe Hooda slides down to 7 and KL Rahul bats 6. Maybe going back down the order might free him up to just hit from ball one?

If DK is injured then get Thakur in. He would have been handful yesterday instead of Ashwin.

if you want to go full pace attack and need someone to bowl 4 overs then I'd rather push Bhuvi up to 8 and get a proper seamer like Siraj in the squad instead.
