One of the best most dramatic games of T20 I've seen in a long time. Tonnes of pace and bounce and just high drama throughout. Thrilling stuff

Question: have SA been a non-entity at ICC events for long enough for the choking curse to have released its grip? Or does the dominance of their performances so far make its return even more of a certainty?

IMO it's not a choke if they just aren't that good, but Bavuma aside they actually have a bit of a gun team so I'm coming around, especially if they keep winning all the group matches. It's a really chokeable team too because there's no serious batting depth - you wouldn't really want to be relying on Stubbs and Parnell to score 6 off the last over under pressure at 5 down....

Maharaj would get the job done…

Won in the last over yesterday chasing an easy target and India were favorites with 10 to go. They've only smashed Bangladesh so far and Zimbabwe were bowling with a bar of soap. Though South Africa haven't lost a game in a 20/20 WC since the first game of the 2021 WC and that against the eventual champions. Unbeaten in 7.

I don't think anyone has dominated yet. NZ were terrific against Australia, that was a complete performance, but they had their moments against Sri Lanka and England tomorrow isn't a given.

India and Pakistan are both much more prone to chokes of late than South Africa IMO.
SA has never made even a final of a world cup ...Only Test nation from the 20th century that has not done so . Its embarrassing when you consider the talent that's come out of SA since 1992 ...So chokers tag is valid in white ball cricket will only be removed with a WC win . We are basically the Netherlands football team of cricket.

People always seem to forget the 1998 tournament that is the only elimination tournament ever played.

To be a pedant, Zim has never made a WC final.

And if we really want to be a pedant Bangladesh became a Test nation in 2000 which, contrary to popular belief, is the last year of the 20th century, not the first of the 21st.

Winning a World Cup would be bigger and better than winning a World 'Championship'. Even more so for South Africa

They have dominated Test Cricket more than enough in the recent past, plus winning a one-off final match wouldn't feel the same as winning a 16 nation world cup.

Question for Saffas: Would you rather win this T20 tournament or the WTC final next year?
My problem I have is that winning anything might give the administration back home the idea that they have been doing something right… and I don’t like anything they have done including selection. I’m not even a fan of the current coach, hindsight being perfect and all. So winning something would feel very undeserved. Nice for some of the players though. And I’m old school enough to prefer the WTC, but T20 WC probably has more impact.
