Didn't watch live but seems like green had a good game. Never thought of him as somoene who could walk to the wicket and slap it like that from ball one, usually very nervy starter who needs 20 balls before he can hit them anywhere. Good to see phillips and allen amongst the runs, crazy that both of them were warming the best the whole series.

Going forward, think the XI should be
1.Head/Mcdermott
2.Warner
3.Smith
4.Green
5.Marsh
6.Carey
7.Maxwell

Anyone know where mcdermott has ****ed off to after that pakistan tour? Wasn't in the squad after the 100 there and they called in inglis before him, which feels weird since ODI's are his worst format.
Played in England as wasn’t picked for these series

Under Kane and Stead we are often too timid in general. But in Aus we take that to the next level. The pussification of NZ players in AUS needs to stop but I can't see it happening anytime soon. I am sure Allen and Phillips will also become nitty gritty coward accumulators if stead and kane stay in leadership.

I fell in love with NZ cricket once again because of Mccullum's style of leadership/brand of cricket he displayed in the 15 world cup. Yes you can be found out against the right team in unfavorable conditions every now and then but when you get on a roll, its exhilarating and inspiring to the nation. But when you lose games in the fashion we do....boy does it sting that much more huh? I hope positive, attacking cricket is implemented in place once again, so the lads have some fun and we can as well. These current showings are so dour. I commend Kane on putting his stamp of authority on the team over the years and making this squad HIS, but long term we don't need his cowardly, take it to the last ball against big teams approach. Beat them, beat them comfy. You have the TALENT and experience ffs. As soon as Stead said last t20 wc that NZ's approach is to take it to the last ball against these big teams (aus, ind, eng) ... its obvious they have an inferiority complex. On the field its their 11 f**n guys against our 11, not the bank accounts of their boards.

And we just llllllove gifting trophies to Aus, they have won 8 in total, 3 of them coming in a final against us. Seems like we go into tournaments to do the lords' bidding, d**k eng, india or sa out of the cup and proceed to hand it over on a silver platter to the aussies. Management needs to put psychologists in place, get this banana colored money off our backs once in for all.

Oh and, Gup out, latham out (f*** his success in india) and ofc, macewell well and truly out. Allen, phillips and Young in. And ffs, give sears and ajaz a run already. We can afford to live without the 3 good games in 20 by the up and coming teenager southee in ODI's, and t20s. Groom the youngins for international games, ffs. I will admit, I do like that Nicholls in odi is not a thing anymore. Good move NZC.
BMac's teams sucked arse against Australia as well.

Ehhh, did they?

From memory they only played the one ODI in Australia while he was captain. And yeah we lost the 2015 test series 2-0 but if Nigel Llong doesn’t make one of the all time 3rd umpire stuff ups we probably draw that series 1-1.

Mccullum has a world cup win against Aussie (won the wrong match tho lol). How many does Kane have?

All in all, the aussie problem is an age old problem. We've had it since the beginning of time. Under mccullum, cricket was fun, positive, exciting. Didn't wanna miss a ball. Under Kane, not so much.

He was lucky to last as many balls as he did tbh
I don't really disagree, but he could get some jammy runs sometimes and had in that same world cup. Starc was looking like a God and I reckon anything at all out of Baz would have helped the momentum.

I love Kane as a player, always have and always will. I probably don’t find his batting as pleasing to watch as I once did, but I’ll always tune in to watch him bat. But he just isn’t a very good captain, I think he’s way to defensive to be leading a New Zealand team especially with a super defensive coach in Stead.

His comments after the second game where he said the plan was to take it as deep as possible really pissed me off as a New Zealand cricket fan. You’re chasing 190, why in the world would you need to take the game deep. Win it in 40 overs, we easily have the talent to do that. That to me was kind of the last straw when it came to his captaincy. Kind of shows you his mindset and where he thinks this team is at.

I agree with a lot of what is being said about KW but reading these comments you'd think McCullum was captain until 2021 and then KW took over

KW has been captain for over 6 years and up until recently he had presided over the era considered the greatest in our history - an era over 5 years in length, compared to less than 3 years where we were actually good under BMac.

What's with this rewriting of history to make it seem like the ghost of BMac was actually captaining us from 2016 to 2021?

His knock in the semi wasn't jammy, it was crucial and pretty well executed. Same vs aus in pool play.

Says a bit about cw perception over time that I've gone from arguably the most anti Baz poster in 2012 to defending him from unreasonable criticism 10 years later.

Like, many of the same people, including kiwis, who insist maxwell and pant are generational talents also buy into mccullum being a lucky slugger. The exception is TH who is consistent and probably views the infamous Gavaskar 36* as an innings of the highest class.

I don't really get it. Truth is a lot of hyper aggressive batsmen can't defend very well in bowling conditions so they often don't and double down on git gud at their strengths, which is fair enough tbh. McCullum in his latter years was an excellent all format batsman.
