why is that it for Mulder? Does he not even get a series to try get accustomed to international cricket. Or is he only allowed one test per series after the team batting lineup consistently collapses and meant to fix everything in your mind or else be dropped again?
Yeah, I knew you would come up with the usual excuses. "He doesn't get a continuous run of games! Jacque Kallis failed for his first 21 test!" Blah Blah Blah. Since he didn't play in the first two tests, he already has a built in excuse for failure. It wasn't part of a continuous run so it doesn't count!

Hey, you got what you were screaming for , Mulder in for one of Jansen/Ngidi/Nortje and we see the results. The usual failiure with the bat and 0-11 of two overs instead of the control Ngidi would provide with the ball. If SA end up pulling this out of the fire, it will be entirely due to the efforts of Rabada, Jansen and Nortje skittling England. Mulder will not be any more useful with the ball than he was with the bat. The whole rationale for his selection falls apart. He dosn't provide balance; He breaks it weakening SA's strong suit (Bowling) without in any way strengthening the batting. How much longer a rope should he get.

ffs that really is one of my pet hates. Fair enough not always propelling the ball exactly where you want, but surely these guys should be able to put their front foot in the right place. Potentially vital after the way Jansen batted in the first innings.

EDIT
Decent response from the skipper, well done there.

Since I'm on about pet hates, cricinfo's commentator has just described England as 'in control' of the test. What they actually mean is 'on top', which is not the same thing at all.

Why is zondo even in the squad? He's not exactly young and hes a specialist bat who averages 31 in fc.
I guess they should have picked Harmer instead y know, for his batting and his 4th innings record of skittling county sides.

Nothing wrong with Mulder's bowling record overall though, even if he hasn't been bowled a frontline amount of overs. When he's bowled well it's been stifling outside offstump with jagged seam reminiscent of Philander.

De Kock has a similar franchise record and his selection has never been questioned...
Foakes had a better fc record then buttler and is a better keeper, yet buttler kept him out of the team for years despite mediocre returns..........

He's maintained a decent average, but it's misleading. Soft wickets mostly, fails the eye test. Not trusted to bowl more 2 overs in the first inning was he? Even with Rabada leaking runs. He's not better than any off Jansen/Ngidi/Nortje and shouldn't displace any of them on the strength of his bowling.

Yep because thats what SA have failed to do in this test... not bowl out opposition?! If you gonna argue for a replacement for Mulder it needs to be for a batsmen... unless you think we gonna somehow miraculously start scoring runs with Ngidi....

Ad its not the usual excuses its literally what has happened to Mulder; since he was selected he has barely played more than a single Test in a series. And almost always selected after the team had failed at batting. It means that in people who obviously know nothing about cricket, in their mind they see that if he does not instantly fix the problem its his fault?

If you think that Mulder playing is the main reason SA are in this position then I don't know what to tell you. The batting is way below par. If one of the batters click then with the SA bowling they can jag a few Tests. That's it basically.

I gather that the last England bowler to take 50 test wickets in fewer matches than Robinson was Ian Botham.
Without looking I'd guess Lord Beef's average was similarly miserly too.

Although sadly I'd also reckon the great man was firmly on the down slope by the time he was Robinson's age.

Now I'm not entirely convinced that I want to see Stokes bowling himself into the ground right now. Broad and Robinson should be perfectly capable of finishing the innings.
