Finn Allen was very good today, no ugly hoicks, no slogging (maybe barring couple of balls or three ?). Took his time, mostly played merit of the ball and when he got in he really cashed in. Oh left a lot of balls too which is quite unusual for him. Showing good signs

So yet again we barely got there. Watched fair bit of our bowling. Got to say Ireland cannot bat. They're so out of sorts with the bat. Can't say we're any better but Irish batting just looks so out of it. Still lucky we won the toss both times otherwise we'll have lost both games.

Looking at how we bowled to Ireland we have no other choice but to continue to use Boult, Southee, Lockie, Milne lineup for few more years and hope they don't get injured or hope Sears comes in and blows the opponents away. If we used any of the bowlers that bowled to Ireland barring Santner we'll be smashed all over the park.

As for the guys doing well, they should get more than their share of fillings vs Ireland, Dutch and Scotland. It's going to get ugly later on.

I'd really like to see Bracewell taken to West Indies. Definitely deserves a longer look and bowling off spin to those guys will tell us loud and clear if he can play vs the big boys.

What will it take for cleaver to get a game? Why not in place of Nicholls? Is Nicholls so good he can't be dropped?
Nicholls' 17 will see him locked in for another couple of seasons.

Nicholls is over 30, is extremely boring, plays the nitty gritty bat at a rate of 75 tuk tuk style extremely well...our management loves that so he ain't leavin the odi setup. Will young looks totally out of sorts but really glad to see Allen smashin it.

Who does Tickner have photos of
You could say the same about Matt Henry. For him to have a great day, you will have to provide him with dirty green track that moves half a mile sideways. As soon as that stops it's just cannon fodder. Tickener was real bad. They would have probably picked him for the test side citing the bounce he gets.

Isn't henries issue more that your basically required to bowl him out by the 40th over or he's going to be given a tour of the ground? Don't think that's a massive issue when you have boult+fergurson in the team who usually bowl 41-50 anyway and neeshaw as a 3rd death option if one of the other two ****-up. Issues start popping up when henry is asked to cover the death in there absence.

True Henry still is probably the 5th best bowler for one day format but he has to be bowled out prior 40 overs like you said. He can play if there is sideways movement otherwise no point either. Bowled a very good first spell but to be honest vs Ireland it is very hard to judge. In fact all these performances are hard to judge. We will only know where we stand when we start playing the top 4-5 teams.

Is that the same Matt Henry who is the no 2 ranked ODI bowler in world cricket?

59 matches and 106 wickets at 25.53 (e/r 5.26)
I still have my doubts about his test bowling (especially as a change bowler) but he's a quality ODI bowler.
He's a poor man's Kyle Mills. Still serviceable at the highest level but his 2-40 is often less valuable than Boults 2-55

Boult-Henry-Ferguson-Santner-CdG is still our best ODI attack.
world cup final was like 8 games ago, so this isn't hugely surprising.

i wouldn't be surprised if we played more games in the world cup than we've played in the years since. 3 against netherlands, 3 against bangers that definitely got played, 1 against aus. who else?
