Great stroke player - still not having him tbh, especially at 3, but fair play for cashing in. Probably need another 100 from these two else we'd still be in the mire.

Pitch ain't crazy flat imo

Counterpoint: Alastair Cook’s entire illustrious career.
sure, okay technically you don't if you are as patient as Cook (and he had long troughs), but its bad to miss out on easy runs. lots of other openers seem quite capable playing it (though i do respect shelving it in the first session).

Not sure I'd call it great myself, but the lad did well, and unlike Lees has very much capitalised on his luck and a placid pitch.

It's more the playing it without foot movement I'm more worried about, it's a shot that will kill him if he carries on playing it like that, IMHO.

At the start of the day I wanted three wickets in the first hour - at this rate, I have my doubts whether we'll get that many all day.

i understand behaving like a major team is AIDS to us because we mentally cling to being Little New Zealand but our trend of benching variety in favour of four 135kph seam up bowlers is very debilitating to the cause sometimes.

One of Wagner, Ajaz and Ferguson should be in every side and all in the squad.

The present and future of English cricket doing well, then. Root hasn't had a hit in an LOI for a while so thought to make do here.

I haven't followed it closely, but I get the impression that Pope has batted better today than yesterday. Less frenetic, and more willing to score slowly if that's all that's on offer. Either way, obviously I'm delighted to see him reach three figures.
