All-round Eachann Evans leads Plymouth Pirates to convincing win
An impressive all-round display first with the ball and then with the bat ensured player of the match Eachann Evans helped
@Marcuss affiliate Plymouth Pirates see off the challenge of
@JOJOXI recently renamed Charminster CC.
Batting first after Plymouth Pirates won the toss and chose to bowl, Charminster CC got off to a quick start reaching 58/1 after the 6 over powerplay thanks to the aggression of opener Akal Keerat Bhambra (54 off 33). Despite the early dismissal of opener Drake Stevens in the third over for a run-a-ball 9, the first of Eachann Evan's five victims, Charminster CC found themselves well placed at the halfway point of the innings at 85/1. Bhambra's aggression was matched with the steady accumulation of young talent Will Fairhurst (31 off 36). 2 balls after the halfway mark Plymouth Pirates struck back with off-spinner Rashid Zakaria (2-36) clean bowling the dangerous Akal Keerat Bhambra. However, Ken Bush, captaining the side on debut, ensured Charminster CC kept up the momentum with a quick 20 off 13 balls leaving Charminster at 123/2 in the 15th over. However, Zakaria got his 2nd victim dismissing Will Fairhurst later in the 15th over. From a position of 130/3 after 15 overs Plymouth Pirates Cricket Ground witnessed an exhibition of death bowling as Plymouth Pirates picked up the final 7 wickets for 6 runs across 18 deliveries. Eachann Evans was the main beneficiary setting up the first half of his dominant display by ending the innings with bowling figures of 5/17. Meanwhile, Charminster CC were left wondering what might have been as they ended up all out for 142 in 19.4 overs.
In response, Charminster CC experienced early success, dismissing both openers inside the first 13 balls to leave Plymouth Pirates at 11/2. Firstly Fergie Leary had Mike Holroyd caught behind for 2 in the 2nd over before Liam Hones repeated the trick to have Connor Akers out for 1. However, what followed was the best partnership of the match in a third wicket stand of 116 in 70 balls as Eachann Evans (60 off 42) and Lucas Hegg (56 off 33) broke the back of the chase, scoring with ease. Indeed, it was only a run-out that saw the partnership broken, Scott Davis catching Eachann Evans short of his ground to leave Plymouth Pirates at 127/3 after 13.5 overs. Quick wickets followed as Craig Fahey and Liam Hones dismissed captain Lucas Hegg as well as new batsman Abrar Mustafa (6) in quick succession. However, it was a case of too little, too late as Plymouth Pirates eased to their target with 23 balls and 5 wickets to spare.
