Bradman averaged 19 in sticky wickets iircReally happy that my favorite cricketer ever among those I didn’t see finished at no.2.Well deserved for ‘the master’.Sir jack hobbs.
Want to write on the greatness of Sir jack hobbs.
From 1910-1928,Hobbs scored 4100 runs at a average of 66,averaging 64 in aus,68 in eng and 65 in aus. When the 1st world war stopped cricket hobbs was 32 years old and at his peak. The master averaged 65 in 1910s at his peak in an decade where run scoring was the toughest among all decade from 1910s to till now.
The most notable thing is hobbs scored just 387 runs at home at 48 and 1644 runs away at 71.47.In his first series in sa in matting wickets hobbs averaged 67.After the master returned to international cricket after war ,it was said that there had been just one batsman better than post-war hobbs and it was hobbs pre-war.
Sutcliffe to Plum following his legendary effort with Hobbs in the 1926 Oval Test, eh? Here's Sutcliffe to yours truly before his legendary effort with Hobbs in the 1926 Oval Test...
Cardus: "This looks pretty bad, Herbert."
Sutcliffe: "Why? What's the matter?"
Cardus: "The wicket. After the thunderstorm."
Sutcliffe: "Oh, has there been one? I didn't hear it. But don't worry; it'll be alright -- so long as Jack doesn't get out."
Hobbs has everything that a no.2 greatest has to have.Great peak,longevity,series domination,consistency.
There was no batsman who was in Hobbs level in sticky wickets.Even greats like Hammond,Headley and others were considered a level below hobbs in sticky wickets.
I haven’t mentioned bradman a single time in my post. Are you even reading the post? Its abt hobbs .D.G.B averaged 120 in other pitches?.Bradman averaged 19 in sticky wickets iirc

Curious how extremely challenging conditions are defined hereThere are actually 2 stats .Pap Finn is referring to sticky wickets only. This is not only of sticky wickets. It’s in extremely difficult situation to bat in.
As per this,The don was still the 2nd best after the master. It compares the career performance of each batsman with the performance in extremely challenging conditions (which includes the sticky wickets).Think sticky were the only problem for don.Bradman has lifted his avg from 20 in 14 innings from sticky to 38 in really challenging condition in 21 innings.Bradman in extremely challenging conditions except sticky wickets averaged 71 in 7 innings. In all I have read bradman didn’t want to change his style of play and score those runs in sticky wickets which were once/6-7 innings cause that might have affected his performance in other pitches .Instead he decided to not change his style and avg that unbelievable number in other every pitches except sticky wickets.

Given Bradman's average I can only assume they are defined as matches where Batsman didn't score any runs.Curious how extremely challenging conditions are defined here
Considering the performance of batsmen in matches where the average runs per wicket (RPW) for their team is below the average (less than 80% of the average) for the era (duration of the player’s career).Curious how extremely challenging conditions are defined here
I will post the tallies from next time. Hobbs earned 10 out of 32 votes. Sachin earned 6 out of 32 votes.I’ve gone back a few pages and I can’t find the tally. How many votes did Hobbs win by?
Nice choice btw
Was going to say this. When Bradman's average is as high as it is any time he fails brings down the average score of the game significantly. Not exactly shocking that he has a low average in such games. That might very well hold for England, for Australia Bradman will completely skew this stat towards matches where he got out early. For most practical purposes, this is Bradman's average in matches where Bradman didn't score runs.
