Stumped!

This is gonna be a tricky chase for our guys, I was hoping that Uzair and Meyiwa were going to give us a good start with the bat...losing Uzair so early just makes things a bit uneasy for me...Meyiwa needs to play a captain's knock.

I loved his counter-attacking innings, it reminds me of a certain Peter Sutherland.
Well done on your comfortable win - I hope I can give you better opposition next season (as the Welsh Wizards have promotion pretty much wrapped up this one!)

Next season will be a whole new 'kettle of fish' I think though as DEV ratings can ebb and flow quite dramatically, and with 7 live teams in our league (unusual for Div 3) there will be plenty of opportunities for a number of teams to take points off each other ....however on a positive ending (well for you !; (Moooo!) (ratings wise) will start favourites !

Was just sending a message on Stumped about one of my players Minesh Rana (I've debated about whether to mention him to you @cnerd123 - he's Bangladeshi and has 20 defensive batting potential - although what I'm about to say might put you off tracking him!)

I was saying there were 9 players across my 2 sides I'd probably be looking to keep in the medium term and everyone else was kind of on notice. A 10th was an interesting case in Minesh Rana. - https://www.stumpedgame.com/player.php?Player=235834

He's batted 16 times in Competitive games and 16 times in Friendlies for me. He strikes at 53.08 at Competitive level and 45.56 at Friendly level which in 15 of 16 games have been inter CW games.

He has developed a knack for thinking the aim is to amass as many balls faced as opposed to runs scored. (I guess that's the right-handed defiant in him!) Below is some of the 'gems' he's played so far in competitive games

19 off 40 in a DEV game
36 off 99 in a OD game
40 off 99 in a OD game against a BOT
16 off 39 in a OD game against a BOT
21 off 42 in a DEV game
5 off 23 in a OD game

And against you fellow CW users.

16 off 66 in a OD friendly v Zor*x
15* off 47 in a OD friendly v my affiliate JoJo
13 off 37 in a OD friendly v Dynamo Morpork
29 off 65 in a DEV friendly v Ataraxia
21 off 62 in a OD friendly v Atarax Wellington
45 off 85 in a DEV friendly v Moo
13 off 53 in a DEV friendly v Moo

So @cnerd123 if you want the Bangladeshi Boycott in your ranks here he is!

Good by McCormack to knock off Michael Winton, he had faced a test in the previous over from Imran Zahid...

67 is not a bad score for him though against his former club.

Minesh Rana is not quite up to international standard @JOJOXI , but I do like defiant batters with high defense at the top of the order. Agnes Chow's been doing that job for us lately - IIRC her skills are 7-15-7. Wonderful asset, especially in the 50 over.

After a disappointing CWC4 group performance, the AXI management has revamped the batting order for the SOD friendly against Moooo. Included in this is club veteran keeper-captain Bobby Shaffrey, rumoured to be leaving the club in a matter of weeks, being replaced by young keeper Zac Chambers.

Previous batting lineup: Frost-Dee-Rowan-Branning-Shaffrey-Murdoch-Winton
New batting lineup: Frost-Dee-Winton-Rowan-Murdoch-Branning-Chambers

A club spokesperson: "It's a vastly changed middle order, but this has shown that our hunches are on point. Winnie [Michael Winton] smashed runs against his former club, and Row-Row [Daniel Rowan] showed what sublime touch he is. But the star of the show was Kurts [Kurt Murdoch], coming off a dry run and showing his incredible aggressive options. It [306-7]'s the highest club score against a 30K+ team."

Winton got 67 (82), Rowan 62 (42), and Murdoch 86 (78), his highest score in friendly 50-over matches and 2nd-highest overall.

I think that Leave, Block, and Push are the defensive shots - the shots that are enhanced by high Defence; the best defensive batsmen can get quickish runs just by playing pushes. So they aren't just new-ball-soakers.

The WRs aren't really too accurate for teams like ours. AXI plainly isn't a very good SOD team, and besides, you're still in with a very good chance. High RRR, but 145-3 ain't bad.

Some nice verbal tennis guys on which team is worse or better!

Here's my take on the Atara/Mooo debate!:

Atara is playing Div 2 T20 and DEV - and Mooo is in Div 3 for T20 and DEV (both OD Div 3 ). Therefore on the surface that is a nod to Atara though of course dig deeper and one team could be about to be relegated and one promoted. However in this case that is not the case though. Of course, excavate further and it can be that one is in a weak Div 2 league and the other a strong Div 3 league- but again that is not the case here.

Atara is playing their T20 games around 54-55k whilst Moooo plays at 40-48k - 24% variance
Atara is playing DEV games at 40-45k and Moooo at 38-43k - 5% variance
Given that a friendly is about picking your best team the variance in Senior games is going to hold more weight and relevance than the variance in the DEV games

That is the big picture. But then we look at the actual match itself as maybe these 'competitive 'friendlies' the 2 play are somewhat different....

So we go to the Expert Preview. In terms of match analysis I strip out Tail End Batting and fielding. They are not irrelevant I know, but fielding is difficult to quantify and if the team does its job in the primary areas becomes potentially immaterial. Ditto even more so for tail end batting. (Stripping them out btw reduces the variance between Atara and Moooo though if you are curious and still bristling at the statistical unimportance I have given fielding! )

On this basis Atara scores 110 for its batting vs 107 for Mooo - a 3% variance.
Bowling is 181 for Atara to 157 for Moooo - a 15% variance.

Of course Exp Pvw does not tell you if players have been batted and bowled in a sensible order nor what def/agg number settings for the match they are given...... and these things often skew 'real matches' where people are playing for IGT rather than the result.

However (ironically), in a friendly you assume teams are selected and set up to go for the win (why would it be other , where no IGT can be gained from a friendly?).

On that basis you'd conclude that the hefty bowling variance (if it is reflected through all the 'friendlies' these battle hardened veterans play!) is going to put Moooo forever on the back foot. Of course - a moment of greatness , a favourable pitch, poor orders and the vagaries of cricket can turn this around - but if you were a betting chap you'd put your money (if equal odds were being offered) on Atara every time!

I'm fairly sure this is it fwiw, my official ratings are mainly based on which level I'm on.

Fun T20 against ataraXIa this afternoon - we were put in to bat, pegged back by some hostile new ball bowling, but the late over hitting by Marita (who massacred Liam Kotze, whose relative was dropped for Hughes) brought us a competitive total of 165 for six. In response ataraXIa looked confident for the first four overs, then the talismanic Frost was bowled by Lo. Grobbelaar and we kept taking wickets at a steady rate after that. Ex-Dynamite Dani Rowan top scored for the hosts with 37.

As often, it was a fun T20. Felt that, Kotze aside, I bowled really well but Marita's class shone in the end, 43 (45) changing to 73 (51). Might put an end to Liam Kotze's mini-career as a bits-and-pieces player in T20s, with Shawn Dee coming back to... open? Not good signs for Shaffrey either, but as it happens, I'm looking to put an end to Shaffrey's and Kotze's times at the club sometime soon anyways.
