He's someone you kind-of root for - he's a 5'2" batsman, cheerful, attractive stroke-play, pulled off that great runout in Oz. I can see why SA selected him (leaving aside the whole quota thing), he looks comfortable at the crease and he played a few good knocks... but then I could see why SA dropped him, as while he usually avoided being the worst performing bat in a struggling lineup, he was often 2nd or 3rd and you can only tolerate that for so long.

Fundamentally he looks like he belongs at international level, no terrible weaknesses, so he's got to find the mentality to turn starts into big scores.

Because the next match starts in 4 days. Might as well let the seamers recover a bit. Ashwin's a good enough bowler to wrap up the tail, even if the pitch doesn't suit him. At the very least he can build some pressure from one end while the 3 quicks rotate.

Don't think we'll need Thakur to bowl today, but maybe he can jam out a wicket straight after lunch.
