Ashok should be good today on this deck. There's fair bit of turn and long boundaries unlike outer oval. Should enjoy bowling at basin.
Does not compute with your Ravindra needs to leave Wellington opinion.

That's T20 though. This pitch has been used twice already. Not worried about the t20s and the one dayers. Rachin bowls enough in T20s. It's the 4 dayers. Just not enough on a 4 day deck for spinners to bowl.

We'll never use a used deck for 4 dayers. It's always going to be a fresh green deck with plenty of moisture at the top. We'll need 10 days for it to dry haha

I'm guessing Adi Ashok won't play for aces much in future. He'll move from Auckland. Not sure if it's his idea or the team management's to bowl short, from around the wicket etc but the kid can bowl all right but needs to pitch it up and let it rip. Most leggies bowl to take wickets and here we have Ashok bowling short and trying a variation every ball. At this rate he'll move elsewhere and become a very good bowler.

Yeah, Joe Walker, who I remember Blocky rated highly, was man of the match. Coburn and Astle bowled really well. ND's innings was bizarre. After Katene Clarke was injured he hit Nuttall for 4 sixes before retiring then the spinners came on and strangled them. Clarke gave his gloves to a kid in the crowd when he retired but was forced to return in the last over to join Boult. Have to feel bad for Nuttall.
Great to see Coburn reappear for pure novelty value - only lands it sometimes obv but when he does a lot of the batters have no idea what's going where. That Paul Adams frog-in-a-blender action is slightly less pronounced now. Cricinfo says he did play a couple of Super Smash matches the last two season, but I must have missed them.

Also good to see Katene Clarke start to have a little more success, in one format anyway. Has had a fairly tough time when elevated to ND side so far.

Finn Allen suffering pretty severe second-seasonitis at the moment. That footwork did not look pretty against the moving ball today.

To be fair last season firebirds had in their lineup Devon, Rachin, Blundell, Bracewell, Troy and Jimmy consistently. Finn could do his thing without having to worry about how the result would go if he gets out. There were no high expectations then. This year he's the main draw and there's an expectation he has set about the tempo of his inning no matter the conditions. He's good enough to give himself few extra balls when a bowler is on top but I guess the expectation of smashing the ball out of the park may not be allowing him to do so. I'd give the credit to Lister though, he was hooping the ball big time and a left hander angle as well.

I don't think Finn can have a season like he did last year. That was a dream run. This year the teams will plan to keep the ball away from him and Finn will have to come up with plans to counter that. Every inning of his will be scrutinized. That's the beauty of cricket, you may not be having the best of the times but if you're in the right mindset the failures help you grow and get better as a cricketer. If you let it weigh down then it screws you up and in no time you lose it mentally although the skills will be intact. Still early days but hope Finn takes these as opportunities to learn and improve. Black caps will back him no doubt about that and he'll play fair bit for BCs this season. Big international year coming up for Finn.

I'm heading down to the first super smash game in palmy for 11 years tomorrow, actually my first time going to a domestic game. Not much else to do in palmy
Bruce McKenzie book shop is great. Also, if you go to the Info Centre they might still have some copies of the Palmerston North edition of Monopoly.

good to see matt fisher getting good figures, lots of potential there....and pace
Gun bowler, one of my favorite young cricketers... I think he is as quick as Sears, maybe not the kind of bounce Sears gets but he's one for the future. I can see Sears and Fisher bowling in tandem for Black Caps in few years to come.

It’s frustrating watching Rutherford play. Mark Waugh to anything wide of off and Mark Gillespie to anything on the pads. There was real potential there imo for him to have become an intl class bat, but he just never really worked out the weaknesses in his game.

Slick work from Fletcher. Liking him more and more as a player.
I think 21 yr old Max Chu looks like a good prospect too. Looks like a good ball striker, Otago should consider moving him up the order.

I thought 6'5 Henry Shipley looked like quite an awkward bowler to face in that game and he seems to be a handy batsman.
