NZ are spoilt for choice with wrist spinning options at the moment. Rippon looks like he could make the step up.

I felt that Rutherford should have bowled the final over himself - the spinners seemed much harder to hit all match.

Can't wait to see the poorly edited highlights of one of Smith's sixes, the first ball of each innings and a randomly selected dismissal to play four times over.

Nathan Smith could well be Ajaz Patel's ticket to a regular Test spot, if he kicks on in the long form. It would be great in a couple of years time, presuming Boult/Southee and Wagner are gone, to have a guy at 6-7 who is as good a seamer as Smith is.

Duffy, meanwhile, has been absolutely atrocious in this Super Smash. 3 wickets at 71s at over 10 an over.

That was a gun knock by Nathan Smith. Not a slog, perfect timing and looked like a proper batsman. Call demeanor and a cool head. Black caps call up to play Netherlands won't be far away. Shame he's not bowling enough for firebirds in super smash.

Lots of good things about today's game. Rippon is getting better every season with the bat and the ball. Call up for Rippon is also not far away I think albeit in white ball cricket. Duffy although has taken some tap this year will come all right no doubt.

Tim Robinson I didn't think is an opener at domestic cricket but he played really well. 19 year old nearly carrying the bat. Glad to see so many young guys turn up and do well. If Devon, Rachin and Blundell were available Tim wouldn't be a starter. Just hoping they play him all the games.

Yeah, that was an enjoyable watch all up. Bracewell stinking up the joint is always bizarrely satisfying. Great to see the Queenstown ground on the TV. Looks an absolute delight.

The experienced Onslow observer was on the money about Robinson :-)

Impressive striking by Smith although I think Rutherford made it easier for him by not bowling himself for another over. Bacon and Duffy seemed the most likely to go for 20 off the last two. Chris Harris was quite good on the comms asking the coach whether Rutherford should bowl more generally.

Rudds was quite good. Pretty accurate for someone that barely bowls. To be honest he'd have gone the distance too seeing how well Smith was timing the ball

Ben Sears looks to have improved too? Using more variations.

Also, given skin cancer concerns how come so few players wear wide brim hats? It seems everyone wears a cap. The Ritchie Richardson style wide brims need to make a comeback.

^^ Actually, I should reign that in. Ashok was also in that U19 team and was probably the best performed.
ND's Kris Clarke (playing today for NZ XI vs Bang) arguably had a better U19 WC, most wickets, best RPO of the main bowlers, and at the crease in two last over wins, 9* (3) vs SL in group match, 46* (42) vs WI in quarter final.

ehhh, sears definitely strikes me as a strike bowler who takes souls and poles...milne has always been a "plz dont hit me for 4 or 6 this ball :(" defensive express bowler, that too from day 1, a weird combo for a guy bowling heat but hey, he's decently economical

durability and fitness wise...yeah i could see that comparison

I think Fisher bowled exceptionally well today. I know he had a rep for being an out and out quick when he was a bit younger, but he looked whippy and controlled rather than just going for speed.

Looks handy with the bat too Field. I think the third umpire denied him a six too after numerous replays. Was waiting for the commentators to weigh in on that but they ignored it. I'm enjoying Jacob Oram in the comm box these last two games.
