I mean Anderson took 15 @ 24 V India, if he wants to keep playing next summer then he walks into the team.

Bigger question marks over Broad for me
Yeah, I was looking at the whole summer, when he averaged 32 against NZ and India combined. Overton, Wood, Woakes and Robinson all out-performed him. He'd probably do a decentish job in home conditions next summer, but I dunno. I'd like the bloke to leave on his own terms before it really is too late. Regarding Broad, he averaged 37 in those series, so fair enough.

yeah he struggled against NZ but to average 24 over 4 Tests against India doesn’t suggest we should be concerned. Leaving on his own terms should surely be exactly that, he goes when he wants to

I wouldn't want to be the one to drop Anderson at the start of next summer either. But I don't agree with your final point. If we get to the point where he's hanging on well beyond his sell-by date because he wants one more home Ashes series, or wants to reach some milestone or other, or he doesn't want to be at home with Mrs Anderson, then the selectors will need to do the decent thing.

Of course, I was quoting your own words though about going out on his own terms. Maybe I misinterpreted.

this is by far the WORST england test team ever. against a fairly mediocre australian XI lineup missing the best test cricketer on the earth(cummins), and the 2nd best fast bowler in au conditions (josh hazlewood)

i can understand past ENG sides bending over to the likes of mcgrath, warne, lee or an on fire mitch johnson or ryano, but this aus XI is a well below par attack and ENG are still pathetic.

Starc aside (being a pink-ball specialist and what not). The attack picked would be an amazing attack for English conditions where you‘re pitching it up and just gliding the ball off the top rather than hurling it hard into the deck, but that’s what this Adelaide pitch demands and Richardson/Neser just aren’t ideal for that. It was really noticeable just how much more juice out of the pitch and how much more hurried both Root and Malan looked as soon as Green came on to bowl, his height and action were far less comfortable for them than the very “English” sort of bowling they’d been facing most of the bowling which they seemed to deal with very comfortably.

In saying that, Richardson really did bowl without much luck for about half the innings. Then he got visibly frustrated and started sending down half volleys searching for the magic ball. It happens. He’ll presumably get another go tomorrow evening.
