The gabba is marnus"s home ground, green averages 100 here, Smith is Smith and Warner is a freak in Australia, only need one of those 4 to get going to be on par with England, Aus should be massively upset if there bowled out with a lead under 100

This is done for England. I don't think their attack has any venom in it. At least min 200 was required to make a match out of it. Aussies even at their worst will score 250 easily

I thought the opposite actually, there was a bit of seam but pretty substantial extra bounce, but the ball did absolutely nothing in the air.

Tbh a lot of the dismissals were classic "haven't had enough practice on bouncy Australian pitches" dismissals. Tentative footwork, pushing with the hands etc.

Apparently Anderson was right on the line fitness-wise; fair enough if so. But leaving out Broad on this pitch is absolutely bonkers.
You've hit the nail on the head for me.

It's going to be really difficult rooting against the Aussies with Cummins in charge. Probably my favorite bowler right now along with Bumrah.

Isn't Woakes a medium pacer, almost a poor man's Ben Stokes?

That's what he was a few years ago.

I just can't imagine why Anderson and Broad wouldn't be in, yet Woakes would.
Woakes is very handy in right conditions. Anderson was preserved for Adelaide assuming he'll be most effective there. They say there's a risk of a potential injury and i get it. Agree with you re Broad. These are ideal conditions for him to produce one of those meme spells. I just dont get how Wood is preferred over him. Don't rate wood much as a test bowler and even then, i think he is better off on flatter wickets.

Plus Broad adds with the bat

agree tbh; it felt as if a lot of the movement was through the air, not off the wicket, and that a couple of the wickets were on some pretty dicey batsmanship from some clearly in over their heads bats
Yeah - hard hands and playing 5th/6th stump line on a reasonably quick and bouncy track got England nutted, not excessive sideways movement.

If England want to do decently in this series, they need to get used to the fact they're going to have to leave a lot, lot better and a lot more often.

Obviously a bad day for us, but tbh given that we're a poor batting side and had only had very limited warmups, this falls fimly into the "oh well, it's hardly a surprise" rather than the "oh no" category for me. The bowling seemed to be pretty good, and even against us I'm never going to begrudge Cummins doing well

Can't see Wood doing well on this deck. He bowls quickly along, not into the pitch. As others have said, much more suited pitch to Broad.

The pitch looks to me like it'll suit Wood. Everyone is saying the bounce isn't too pronounced but I haven't seen any Australian cricket in ages and it looks to me like they're playing on a trampoline. Just nothing like the home pitches Wood is useless on.

Yeah it has springs in it but I feel it would assist bowlers who kiss the surface like Hazlewood and Robinson rather than those who bang it in. There's also some lateral movement on offer. Obviously I haven't seen an awful lot of wood but from the little I've seen, he likes to bang it in or go real full. I don't really consider him as someone who would exploit friendly conditions

Hazelwood kisses the surface? More of a bounce bowler, to me. Big tall fella who rises off a length. Cummins another who hits a length hard. Those two got a lot more out of it than Starc did, given Starc definitely is a 'kiss the surface' bowler.

Hope I'm wrong, I do like Wood as a bowler. I've watched a bit of him and his short ball seems to be very short, which I'm not sure works in Australia. Again, England posters will tell me I'm wrong but I see him as someone who'd do better on skiddier decks and hurrying people up, trapping them in front etc.
