Is it that Bangladesh can't prepare better decks due to overuse of this ground with back to back games or they deliberately produce that sort of pitches to keep the supporters happy?
The back to back matches don't help over the course of the series, but they're well capable of producing different sorts of pitches at Mirpur. Just a couple of months ago against Sri Lanka they managed to produce a green seaming track with some pace and lateral movement on offer.

Larsen may actually believe Michael Bracewell has got an outright bowling edge on Somerville now. The Plunket Shield stats wouldn't lie on such a thing.

Wellington Firebirds all-rounder Michael Bracewell would have been selected for the Bangladesh T20s and Pakistan ODIs, but made himself unavailable as he awaits the birth of his first child.
Perhaps a fair call to get anotherbits and pieces spin allrounder in the side, but the extent to which Ajaz looked head and shoulders above every other NZ bowler makes me think there’s still a place for old fashioned specialists in these kinds of conditions.

yeah this isn't really the time to try and snark michael bracewell. he's never going to be a regular nz rep but he'd have been dangerous af tonight.

The last match against Australia ended three weeks before. They had ample opportunities to prepare a somewhat flat deck. Khaled Masud said today that it’s possible to change the nature of pitches here within 10 days or so. I guess the board doesn’t want it.

Yes I know the Aces saw the true worth of Somerville on a tour of the UAE. All the silly little NZ Super Smash players looked more than one tier down from him in non-NZ conditions.

If Bangladesh continue to play stupid games with their pitches, they'll continue to win stupid prizes with their future in international cricket

Oh they may not be whizzes with their turf science, but I think they'd still disagree. They're quite adamant you can't win U19 World Cups in South Africa without a bit of (possibly 23yo) pace in the pipeline, and adequate batting vs. pace.

If you want some high-tech coddling of really gormless, one-dimensional, smashed 'em bro cricketers, Josh Clarkson types, look towards modern-day Australia and NZ.

Interestingly cynical viewpoint for a team that has reached #1 in all formats and has built some of the most enviable depth in the world? How are we coddling these cricketers?

I can't admit to knowing a lot about Bangladesh cricket and the politics of it, but it seems from reading between the lines and online of people discussing the powers-that-be, they're more interested in winning series' at home than building the sort of all-round cricketers to be competitive around the world.

All 4 squad members on the bench last night were seamers.

Chriiiiiiiiiiist ....

Poor fellas.

No chance of winning even one game, I'd propose, with 8 overs of seam per match to get serve up.

If wanting to try and win, change would be Kuggs for Tickner as a specialist batting number 9. Dont let him near the bowling crease. While Sears and Bennett dont get a single match.

Obviously that wont happen though.

Even with their self imposed selection limitations, this a stupidly balanced squad.

Obvious replacement for Allen would have been Chapman leaving 2 weeks earlier than he'd planned.

Chapman and Astle should have been in this squad anyway, for 2 of the seamers. I dont know what knots the players union have tangled themselves up in, but these 2 normally fringe squad members should be getting some actual games. No burnout, the 2 months from now to October will be the only blackcaps cricket they play all season, why artificially restrict it by a third? The Bangladesh quarantine requirements didn't sound very tough, so not a big mental health barrier.
