Official NZ in Bangladesh (5 T20s)

Look, if there is one good thing to all of this is that given the next 4 matches are all in Dhaka, I don't have to worry about re-signing up for Spark or staying up past 10pm. Woe be us all if they're going to be played on the same decks, which in a 5-match series I presume some of them are.

What steps are SENA countries taking to be competitive in the SC? Don't hear much talk of dustbowls in Dunedin. Maybe B'desh don't care about being world-beaters; maybe all they're after is humiliating SENA teams at home. Last I checked a loss on the SC still registers as a loss in the ICC registers. I wouldn't be so concerned with their trophy cabinet just yet; for all you know they might kick NZ out of Sharjah too.
A turning pitch is one thing, this one was keeping low and taking off and all sorts … and again that’s fine on the fourth or fifth day of a test, but this was a t20! I haven’t seen many where there hasn’t been a single six hit.

That $25 I spent is tasting pretty bitter right about now lol

That’s really sad and disappointing to hear. It’s not going to lead to good development for Bangladesh players, and these types of games are hardly going to excite new fans and grow the game, either.
Bringing in new fans isn't really a problem for Bangladesh. They just want as many wins as possible after a decade of humiliation in the 2000's. Fair enough to be honest.

Same... never heard a single good word about any player. I see the trend. Sure we lost the game last night but there were fair bit of positives if you look at it. Our bowling was top notch. There were no hit me balls. Cole bowled really well barring the last ball, Jazzy was outstanding, Duffy was quite good and knew what he needed to from ball one, Ravindra went for couple boundaries but then those were good shots not **** balls. You have to see the bowling in isolation and acknowledge batting was way below par perhaps. Every time the ball was hit in the air our guys got out. It won't happen every game that way, just one of those days.
Dude this is weird timing I know but you deserve a 'good job' for actually trying to make the next gen world class with your coaching and other work behind the scenes aye. Pretty easy for some of us to chirp away on the internet with snide comments, but you actually get out there and put in work.

Good job bro.

Haha, I would've done so but I know I'm a right prick with less than 8 hours sleep. I feel very justified now. I woke up to a 'oh look we're back to the good old days of NZ cricket' text and knew I'd made the right call even before I checked cricinfo

I don't see anything wrong with that. They prepare pitches that gets them wins like we do for test cricket. It's fair. Just that those that watch the t20 game expect it to be batters game and when we don't get that it's outside of our realm to accept it. This is not a norm for t20s. In fact the pitches they played vs WI in test cricket was better for batting than this one.

Yeah, I'm not sure watching teams crawl at 3 rpo in the power play against an armada of part-time spinners is really what anyone wants with T20. It's a bit peculiar too, as I reckon Bangladesh are more than good enough to dispose of this NZ side on more balanced surfaces. When we toured in 2013, scores in the ODI series were much more in the 250-300 range and they still won 3-0 against a full-strength lineup.

There are so many like me, volunteers doing the job. In my experience I'm certain I haven't seen the level of cricket that's there at grass root right now a decade, two or three ago. I'm sure the young player's psyche on this tour will be to embrace the tour and results. They won't be worried and likewise the coaching staff will be all right too. They know this is an investment for future. The experienced may feel a bit down or disappointed just because they have barely played T20s and they wouldn't mind being good at it and earn few extra bucks plying their trade in t20 leagues. A series like this will not help them unfortunately.

In the famous kids anime Yu-Gi-Oh where characters play cards against each other, the main antagonist Pegasus, despite literally creating the game itself and having an eye which allows him to see the cards of the other player and read their minds, somehow still managed to lose.

This is what I imagine Bangladesh losing at home feels like.

It's like NZ ODI pitches in 1990s though. Suited to Harris, Larsen, N Astle.

It was poor cricket to watch, but it suited our realities at the time.

Shakib "I think the wicket in the first match was more difficult than the Australia series," he said. "I think we still bowled very well. They naturally struggled as they are not acclimitised to these conditions."

You got to believe that when the man says it. If this was the deck for t20 imagine the deck we would have to play on in if we played a test there. Would have loved to see our boys play a test on this deck.

so you're saying we need to believe in the heart of the cricket ball to win

I think Bangladesh were trying to make a wicket that strongly tilted the table in their favour and just overdid it. Wanted a par-120 sidespinner's paradise that they'd win comfortably on.... but got a par-90 (imo) that was actually a bit of a lottery.

Seen a lot of chat about CdG batting too high in the order. I personally think he has to be in the top 4 in these conditions. He's probably the only player in the squad who would be able to exploit the power play restrictions, all before the pitches get even worse. Latham and CdG to open? Probably be a different story if Allen was able to play.

CdG is one of those guys who can go from ball 1. That's really useful to have down the order in T20. The main issue with the side in general is there's lots of proper batsmen and not many from the meme team. Honestly this top 6 could be an NZ A red ball batting order.
