Double header today for the MTOs. The 2nd match today is the first match against Ashgrove Astronauts CG @Marcuss. Away conditions look good but expecting a tough match. Firstly this morning a home match against Winton CC @JOJOXI in our 5th match were Winston has a clear lead.

Unfortunately exciting new comer Liam Levy will not be playing, as he is considered just a touch to inexperienced and will be watching from the sidelines.

Not a good batting performance this morning. Once again up to lower order to try provide some runs.

Absolute thumping by Winton this morning.

Terrible batting performances. Not enough runs on the board leaving the bowlers with little say. Kock not performing with the bat not promising for his future role as captain. Management need to take their licks as well, and consider their management of team!

Two good games for FHK today to commemorate 1st July.

At 5DNOL we played host to ZCC in the annual 1st July SOD fixture. FHK fielded their U21 side while ZCC went in with a mixed XI, with Danial Ahsan captaining and former BD international/soon to be ZCC coach Naseer Rashid opening the batting.

Before the toss the two teams, coaching staff, and all 10,655 spectators present stood as 'Glory to Hong Kong' was played over the PA system.

FHK skipper Ted Hui won the toss and elected to bat first. Tiffany Yuen was caught behind 4th ball to 16 year old seamer Taufeeq Bashir, after which Nathan Law and Agnes Chow steadied the ship. Agnes was dismissed for 52, while Nathan proceeded to score his first ever senior cricket century - 113 off 127 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes! A fine innings to mark the occasion, and the foundation for FHK's final score of 264/6. ZCC's young spin attack of Chester and Younis went wicketless, while Taufeeq Bashir nabbed 2 wickets and a runout. Young seamer Sampath Ramalingam bowled very well too, taking 2/32 in his 10 overs.

Naseer Rashid proceeded to wind back the clock during the run chase, showing the class that earned him an ODI average of 61.67 in 23 innings at the highest level. He hit four consecutive boundaries in the 4th over off Ted Hui, and proceeded to score 74 off 92 balls in his first ever innings in ZCC colours. He was outdone, however, by unexpected opener Arif Jalal. The senior side captain and bowling allrounder has occasionally opened the batting in T20 cricket, and even has a century in the format, but was still a surprising choice to open the batting in today's fixture. He proceeded to silence the doubters with a brutal 90 off just 67 balls! He was particularly severe against wristspinner Lai O Yin, hitting him for 4 sixes, including 3 in a single over (with a dropped catch in between them!). Together this opening pair scored 168 in 25 overs, putting the result all but out of doubt. Lester Shum broke the partnership with Rashid's wicket, and picked up Shahbaz Furqan for a duck in the same over, leading to a bit of a wobble. Jalal skewed one off Joshua Wong to Andy Li a couple of overs later to be dismissed just 10 shy of what would have been his first ever 50-over century, and FHK's aggression and intensity in the field picked up. But the damage had been done, and ZCC got over the line with 5 overs and 3 wickets to spare.

This was then followed by a trip down to the Schmaltzberg Mining Inc stadium for the first ever 50-over match between the two clubs! A full-strength FHK side opted to bowl first upon winning the toss on a slow, dry, slightly worn wicket. Msomi and Manning scored good fifties for the hosts, and 7 off the top 8 crossed double digits, as they ended on 223/7 after their 50 overs. Lester Shum the pick of the bowling yet again, with 3/31 in 10 overs. Nathan Law continued his good form by hitting 54 off 68 opening the batting, but at 128/5 the hosts would have sensed an upset on the cards. But it wasn't to be. The two Michaels (Kovrig and Spavor) scored exactly 54 as well, and FHK ended the day with a 4-wicket win with 5 overs to spare.

190 overs of hard fought cricket - they're going to sleep well tonight!

Reid and Farhat with a solid opening partnership.

This is the first time the Astronauts and TMO are playing each other! Exciting.

Both of these players have their head on the proverbial chopping block with the young talented Levy in the squad. Need to convince management of their pedigree.

And 1st wicket down...

Mullaney having a shocker in the field - 7 runs in overthrows and two dropped catches! Not that any other of the young cadets have fielded that much better. I count at least 5 dropped catches in 25 over so far!

This is a good pair in the middle currently for GG CC. Left-right hand combination and they are not really going hell-for-leather. Calculated risks.
