Rachin debuting this summer is a must I think. Whether thats opening or at 7 I'm not too fussed really.

Latham
Rachin/Conway
Big Daddy
Boss/Nicholls/Conway
Nicholls/Conway/Young
Blundell (+)
Rachin/CDG
Wolfcastle
Southee
Wags
Boult/Duffy/Ferguson

Maybe a bit of rotation in the squad with 1 noob coming in the batting and 1 in the bowling per match.

Then blokes like Neesham/Mitchell/Ajaz/Santa sniffing around the edges for injury cover or if we tour somewhere with spin.
Fergs? I dunno, with all the T20 leagues and LOs, don't think he'll be good enough tbh. Boult/Duffy/Henry surely? And yeah I get that Boult's bowled trash, but he's still trolled a few wickets regardless, plus he has a longer rope surely.

I'd say:
Latham
Conway
Daddy
Boss
Nicholls
Rachin
Blundell+
Jam
Southee
Wags
Boult/Duffy/Henry (Boult unless he continues to be trash)

Neesh/Santa are just not good enough, esp Santa - never clicks with the bat and Rachin can surely do as good if not better with the ball. Ajaz the first choice spinner, and hopefully Rachin provides good backup (unsure about this atm tho).

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Though he said he thought he’d retire if they won the WC, Crowe gave him the goal of 20 test tons. A tour to India might clear that and then a home game to say farewell. Would be sad if he just randomly announced it a while after the WTC and before any other cricket.

I think he'll definitely play in the coming summer, he'll want to retire on home soil and after the way he played in these past couple tests, he's earnt himself a victory lap. If that's the case, I'd be happy to give him the 2 tests v Bangladesh but if I were in the NZ selection group I'd quietly tell him that we'd be wanting Will Young for the SA series. There's also the 2023 World Cup which he's talked about a couple of times - but I suspect with the WTC in the bag he's probably happy to call time.

Whatever it takes!!!
Why not set up the first test V BD at his home town and let that be his retirement match. Then Young can bed in from the 2nd test V BD instead of being thrown right in V RSA which might seem slightly unfair. I felt this way when Rahane had to come in after Sachin retired too.

Can't wait for the upcoming NZ matches. A brand new type of energy will exude from the players and the crowd. A country that has just tasted a major cricket world title for the first time. No offence to the Champions Trophy in 2000 but the WTC had a much bigger stage with more spotlight, like a t20 or odi wc. Imagine the reception our guys will receive when they walk out to the various grounds this summer. Ohhhh I cannot wait for us to build on this achievement. The youth will be fired up and so inspired by this. The positivity .... Feels so good after following the team for the last 18 years. The rain, ICC, big 3, could not contain us this time. We are WORLD CHAMPIONS.

Think we've got tests coming up away in india in november after the t20 wc, home tests vs bd and rsa, then 3 tests vs eng in eng next summer....around 9 test matches in the next 12 months.

That schedule we have in the next year and a half is PACKED. The quality depth we seem to be building....it will be put to the test.

I hope we get 3 tests Vs NZ this time and hopefully same in return when we tour there. I hate 2 test series for some reason. Just seems odd.

Interesting viewpoint.

I think the greater part of the point would be that trying to be something you aren't is unsustainable. That's potentially what we were trying to be before 2013. We were bloody hopeless at cricket, but believed being angry might somehow help us a) prove to people we were disappointed at being hopeless b) intimidate people c) be better at cricket. Don't remember any of those working.

I don't think any side in the world needs to be humble, or 'nice' or whatever...but they certainly need to be true to who they are as people.

@Prince EWS if the sim can, can you show us how the 2020ish NZ seconds compared to the main side AND how they compared to Flemings side?

Picked without prior knowledge of whats to come, something like

Cooper
Ravindra
Conway
Young
Phillips
Mitchell
Cleaver
Jamieson
Henry
Ferguson
Ajaz

Cricinfo's last update is evil so I can't show you anything more recent than about Dec last year yet. Jamieson in particular would get btfo by that limitation.

Good interview from Wagner on Cricinfo. Sounds like he’s keen to continue on playing for a while longer, would be great if he could push on through the next WTC title. Our chances of retaining the mace will be helped out significantly if he does.

at what point were the poms calling jimmy an atg?

because tim southee currently has 272 @ 25 since his recall to the test side against india in 2012 and i think it was around the 300 wicket mark.

im going to be an even worse poster than i already am if tim southee can take 300 wickets since recall at 25-26. tough india tour ahead and a home series against a bogey team south africa but there's also 40 bangladeshi wickets on offer this summer.

it might be on guys, we might be able to james anderson timmeh into atg status. just post it enough with the nz media machine behind us and it's a FACT.

Also on the d low, a run of 272 wickets @ 25 is genuinely ATVG type stuff from an NZ quick and if you offered me Tim Southee - 62 tests, 272 test wickets at @ 25 in 2008 I would have ripped your arm off. That's basically the career of Jason Gillespie, and we didn't think we'd ever get a Jason Gillespie for a while in 2008.
